Stanton House Hotel

I recently used Stanton House Hotel for a Celebration of Life for my father. Obviously these things are done at short notice, but Anna and her team could not have been more helpful and accommodating. After I initially made contact, Anna sent over details of a suitable room and details of the selection of food on offer. At this point we had no idea of numbers but I never felt under pressure and I was confident it would all be managed to the highest level. I was only able to give Anna our food selection 7 days beforehand but that was no problem. On the day, her staff helped organise the pictures and flowers we had brought along. It's clear it wasn't the first time. It looked wonderful. The venue along with the tranquil view was perfect so the occasion. The food was superb. Various meats, salmon, with so many salads. There were so many positive comments about it from people who attended. I cannot recommend Stanton House Hotel enough. A huge well done to everyone.

The hotel is in a beautiful setting with access to walks around a country park and lake area. Plenty of parking available. We received a warm welcome from the staff on duty at the time. This was important as we were staying for a funeral reception.

we had evening meal in the restaurant and it was quite chilly in the room. The conservatory bar was closed that evening and it would have ben nice to have pre-dinner drinks in there. However we did have a drink in the restaurant bar with views of the lake.

We were gifted a 2 night stay by our daughter and son-in-law. We upgraded to an executive room and full cooked breakfast for £60. Excellent value. The room was a great size with a super king bed which was soooo comfy. Fridge, sofa, hair dryer, kettle for tea and coffee. Good bathroom with a corner bath with a great shower. However…….there was a plastic curtain which sticks to your body…definitely needs changing. The hotel grounds are absolutely stunning. Staff are superb especially Yasmine on reception. Nothing was too much trouble. Food in the restaurant was pretty good but the breakfast wasn’t as advertised on the webpage. No smoked salmon and poached eggs were quite hard. Steak in the evening was very grisly, but other dishes were amazing! Wine service was interesting! No tasting or serving the wine! Just plonk the bottle on the table and serve your self and if you have the apprentice waiter……get a bottle of red wine plonked on your table in an ice bucket! A bit Fawlty Towers! Saying all of that we had a lovely time…….weather was amazing.

We were greeted at the desk and a member of staff took us to the room. We were asked whether we wanted Prosecco or elderflower drink. Then what beverage we would like with our afternoon tea. The selection of cakes and sandwiches was lovely and we were topped up with our beverages several times.

We stayed at this lovely hotel whilst visiting a friend in Swindon. This is a lovely gem of a hotel. It is set in a large ground and it is worth exploring. Inside the hotel is quaint, and I loved the period decor. Our room was nice, but there was black mould around the single-glazed window. Some attention is needed to bring this gem to a higher standard. It would be a better value if the room were modernised, as it was tired in parts. Some places need further cleaning, such as the black mould, which could be cleared by using Mr Muscle! The floor creaks, but I'd like that, and it may not be to everyone. Breakfast was freshly cooked, which was totally awesome. That's the reason why this is a 4-star.
