"This is a restaurant, not a hotel"

4.0

This "hotel" is really a restaurant with rooms because all the rooms surround the restaurant's courtyard and there is live music DAILY until MIDNIGHT. I think the public should be informed about this before one makes a booking here. Esp. given the price I paid for this room ($xxx), I think it is completely insulting. The room does not have a safety box and given the public access to the rooms as the restaurant is open all day, I think it was particularly unsafe. The wi-fi did not work consistently. There was never anyone at reception but had to get a waiter to get my key or to drop off the key. Never knew how to get the ceiling fan to work until the last day when the waiter told me there was a remote. The staff are very nice and respectful but spoke very little English. The pros--free water very helpful. A plate of sweets greet you when you check in. Coffee maker helped.

"Delightfull little colonial hotel"

8.0

This is a small, independant hotel, but in the best area of this lovely city, just blocks from the lively, beautiful zocalo. The hotel is full of colonial era antiques, almost like a museum. We loved it! Breakfast was fabulous, free and most satisfying. They run cooking classes, but a bit pricey! The front desk staff was more than helpful, and friendly. unlike the restaurant staff. Do bone up on your spanish to really enjoy this city and hotel.

"the good and the not-so-good"

8.0

Part of me wants to give this hotel 5 stars, and another part of me wants to give it three. So we'll settle on four... Let me explain. Location: great. Close to the zocalo, safe, active street. Room amenities: shampoo, conditioner, cream, shower cap, robe, hairdryer, TV, WiFi, a/c, space heater, plenty of bottled water. (Unlike other reviews I got neither daily pastries nor a take-away breakfast for my early morning departure.) Staff: very friendly and helpful Breakfast (included): good food but inattentive service Room (#3): beautifully decorated and spacious, but extremely dark. There are only two VERY small stained glass windows. The lighting is inadequate to make up for this. It's great at night but otherwise very dim. The bathroom has a funky odor, which I suspect is fumes from the sanitary pipes. Lastly, the noise from the restaurant downstairs is VERY loud. the restaurant closes at 10 or 11 (6 on Sundays) but throughout dinnertime there is a lot of noise including live music. If you aren't OK with this, don't stay here. If you are a night owl, it may not matter.... The downsides were bathroom odor, lighting, and noise. For me, they were not egregious enough to warrant a complaint and I would probably return.

"Going Back in Time"

8.0

We stayed 2 nights and it was an enjoyable experience. The hotel is very old but the cracks and fading paint add to the ambiance. Our first impression of the room was "Wow" because of the antique furniture and old heavy wooden doors. A very unique room. It was a little noisy at night as dining room noise carried up the stairs and there was a lack of outlets. The coffee maker had to be taken to the bathroom to be plugged in. But the hotel staff was very helpful getting us airport transfer and the location of the hotel was perfect for our sight seeing needs.

"Great hotel, great location, great staff"

10.0

I have nothing but good things to say about this hotel. We decided to stay here because of the great reviews and the great location. Our first impression upon arriving at the hotel was that we had made the right decision. The staff was very courteous and friendly, and helpful at all times. The rooms are great (I got to see two of them) and had everything we needed. Our room did not have AC, and the fan was broken, but they provided us with a pedestal fan. A couple of days later, once some rooms were available, they offered to upgrade us to a room with AC because of our lengthy stay, but we were already settled and happy at the other room. To our surprise, breakfast was included. When we found this out, we expected a small breakfast, but it is actually a full menu breakfast. We got to try almost everything, and every single item was delicious. Plus again the staff was very accommodating and helpful (we had a 1 year old with us and they gave us whole milk every time we needed it without any charge). They have valet parking, and they were always very nice and would have your car ready in no time. As I said at the beginning, everything was wonderful. I would not hesitate to stay here again and again whenever we go back to Puebla, and I will definitely be recommending this hotel to whomever asks me. Thank you to all the hotel staff for making our stay so pleasant!

"Amazing Experience"

10.0

I cannot say enough positive things about this hotel. I attended a conference in Puebla, and this hotel is in a convenient location. It is close to the conference center, the art district, the square, and the shopping district.I also had to leave early for the conference some mornings, earlier than the complimentary breakfast started, but the hotel staff got up early to have coffee and pastries ready for me before I left. The first day there I accidentally flooded my room a bit. I did not notice there was a felt cover on the drain in the shower, and it spilled out of the bathroom into the bedroom. I felt horrible about it, but the staff was understanding and cleaned it up in no time. They were so nice about everything. Hotel staff was also eager to recommend restaurants and attractions to visit. They showed me how to get there on maps or ordered a taxi for me if I prefered. Most spoke English really well, and if they did not, they were patient with my horrible Spanish, and we were able to communicate. As far as the safety goes, I never felt threatened in any way. The hotel and surrounding area are safe and pedestrian friendly. I hope to be returning some day.
