Old Downton Lodge

Lovely place to stay. Out in the countryside with lots of good walks. Excellent restaurant and great service.

Lovely rooms, with very well equipped bathrooms. Great location in the countryside.

The food, whilst good, and well presented, was all very rich.

We had a lovely room-a converted outhouse, comfortable and stylish. Perfectly clean.

Miles from anywhere. Narrow country lanes with very high hedges to negotiate to get there. Oddly unwelcoming attitude on checking in, a feeling of being ‘told off’ for not having made a dinner reservation despite our not knowing whether we wanted to make one then being told we could either eat at 6 or 8.30 and we had to choose which.

All aspects were excellent. Staff were so helpful. Quality of rooms and food were great.

I have eaten in Michelin starred restaurants but this was as good as these. Room was impeccable and staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Every possible detail had been considered, from the umbrella hanging outside the room, to the pre dinner nibbles.

The whole ‘package’ was superb. The accommodation, the food and the brilliant hosts and staff.
