"Amazing, unexpected experience!"

10.0

I booked a night at the Cavendish due to it's walking distance from Chatsworth House, not expecting much at all. How wrong I was! We actually changed our plans and booked a second night because it was so lovely! The photos don't due the hotel any justice - while there are more traditional style rooms - there is an entire wing of rooms decorated in tasteful, modern decor that I absolutely adored. For the hotel being VERY old, the fixtures, furnishings, etc are all in impeccable quality. The Cavendish Hotel is actually owned by the Chatsworth Trust, and was decorated in part by the Duchess herself. The common areas were delightful, and we enjoyed two lovely dinners in the Garden Room. Service was excellent, from the front desk, the porters, to every waiter we interacted with. As I had expected, a large part of the draw is the distance to Chatsworth, but the situation, views and pleasant walking paths to the estate were way above expectations. I was visiting Chatsworth due to it's being a filming location of the 2005 Pride and Prejudice, and I truly felt like Lizzy Bennet walking through the woods and fields back from visiting Pemberley. Tickets to the Chatsworth estate bought through the hotel were lower than the website and allowed free return visits during the length of our stay! Hands down, would go again. Book ahead, and enjoy a wonderful experience at The Cavendish.

In such a beautiful and historic hotel please furnish it appropriately - it need not be expensive, but it should be right. Get the right advice and provide the deserving building with the interior it deserves and used to have .. my room was a mush mash of cheep contemporary, glamour, beach and the more befitting country classic - stick with what works within the context of the building and you will be back on track.

"Lovely characterful hotel in lovely location "

10.0

The hotel is in a beautiful setting with many attractions nearby. Our room had a double aspect with a view of Chatsworth House in the distance. It was comfortably appointed with many thoughtful details such as quality biscuits and fresh coffee. The service was super; all staff were friendly and attentive. We ate dinner in the garden room where the food was superb; next time we would book the main restaurant as the garden room lacked atmosphere in the evening. (Lovely for lunch for the view). We will definitely return.
