Rocamar Lido Resort

This booking was a last minute 3 night stay due to a cancelled flight and no available accommodation provided by airline! The Lido resort is a complex of multiple hotels some of which have been renovated, some that are under renovation and others that in parts are in need of renovation. There is significant work going on within the site but that did not impact on our stay. Check in was very simple and straightforward and they provided support and answers to any query. Our room was clean, functional and serviced by staff on a daily basis. (TV image was a little grainy on the BBC World News). Breakfast was located in one of the main buildings and was accessed by a series of adjoining terraces. It is a buffet style with enough choice to keep most people satisfied. Seating was internal or external. There is also a bar adjacent to the dining area for drinks and snacks throughout the day. There is also a second bar/ restaurant area for guests and public use close to the upper swimming pool. Staff were always friendly and addressed any needs you may have. The gym facilities were excellent, in a stand alone building. The sun lounging terraces were spacious and varied, allowing you seclusion or minimal interaction in certain areas if you wanted, whilst also providing access to the sea and sea pool. Life guards were actively on duty and monitored the sea area at all times. There was also a pool on the highest terrace if you didn't want to traverse up and down the steps to the sea.

With that rate price , we deserve bigger TV , more English program , clean nice pool ,or at least offer some botttle of water.

I liked everything! Great restaurant. Very nice pools with plenty of space for sunbathing. The breakfast and dinner buffet was amazing. I will recommend it to all my friends.

From the moment we checked in to the moment we checked out it was an excellent holiday. The staff were all very friendly and helpful - nothing was too much trouble. The breakfasts were excellent with a good choice and a variety every day. We were celebrating a special birthday and the hotel put a card from the staff and a bottle of bubbly in our room. Guest safety was obviously considered with a lifeguard controlling access to the sea and swimming pools. The location was quiet but with easy access to Funchal and the motorway. We will certainly be returning.

Fantastic nice place to stay

Views and pools of hotel are amazing. Service was well. They need to update the hotel and need to change the mattresses. I had to leave my stay earlier due to bad back because of hard beds. Other then that it was a great experience. Favorite part was pools and views

It was not a great stay. First of all, we booked it because it was advertised as having “free parking”, which is misleading as there are about 6 parking spots and 200 or so cars were fighting for it every day. A very surly receptionist just brushed us off when asked about the parking “parking is where you find it”. So each day we had to navigate tiny narrow steep streets looking for it. So if you are renting a car in Madeira (as you should because there’s little public transport and the gorgeous islan is large and you want to go places to see it’s beauty) you should stay elsewhere. The room we stayed in had a lovely huge terrace with a great view of the ocean but that’s about all positive. The furniture was dated, my table side lamp cord would fall out of the wall socket and gad to be propped by the bedside table and each day the maid would push the bedside table back so the cord would fall off and I start all over again. The TV was a joke, it was a 15” computer monitor that had a green and a blue stripe across the screen when watching TV. The hotel is for large tourist groups from Europe, individual tourists should look for somewhere else to stay as the hotel is geared towards ripping off these group tourists. Nowhere else in the world have I seen a hotel where they charge you (!) for the key to your room safe. Service was lousy as well, I asked for a broken kettle to be replaced on a Sunday and was told it wasn’t possible until Monday “when housekeeping comes to work”.

If you are looking for a relaxing place with great view, Hotel Rocamar is one of the choices. It is located on the cliff, facing the Atlantic ocean, hearing the waves & looking at the ocean, feeling so peaceful. I woke up at 630am to see the sunrise, a bird was singing from start till the end of sunrise every morning.... such a beautiful scenery. There are many choices of local tours for different activities information in hotel reception and you can simply make reservation there. I and my sister booked a local taxi for a day tour seeing different landscape - the highest cliff in Europe, the natural pool - Porto Moniz, the local fisherman village, Canico de Baixo... etc. Hotel is very clean, bed is comfortable but the only thing is the decoration, furniture & electricity are a little bit rundown especially the in room kitchen, however if you don't plan to cook or reheat food that's not a problem at all.

A traditional hotel with seaview - steep steps leading down to sea. Quite small. A lot of other hotels in area. An OK hotel - maybe a little bit too expensive.
