The Sunset Beach Resort & Spa Taling Ngam

The staff at the hotel were awesome. Nothing was too hard for them. They were always helpful and cheerful. The resort itself was great. It was very quiet and relaxing. Highly recommend it for families or couples who just want to go away and relax.

Very hot room, insufficient air condition, did not sleep well (If you go there, better take a small ventilator with you!). Antique TV without HDMI. Water in bathroom smelled really bad. No water shower on toilet, which is common standard in Thailand. Pool was closed 3 days (water was green). Bell on the beach was out of order (Staff told me, they won't repair it because it will break again anyway..). Hotel is very far from civilizasion, next supermarket (7 eleven) is 15 mins away by motorbike. Nice was the competent massage and the breakfast bufffet. All in all not worth 5 stars.

My wife and I went all over Thailand recently, staying 5 nights here. We were greeted at the reception area by the GM, Henrik. We immediately felt welcomed. The room was so beautiful. The bathroom was well-appointed and was outside behind the bedroom; the whole villa was surrounded by high walls and higher foliage, so there was no lack of privacy and there was something exotic and fun about showering out of doors, surrounded by flowers and the sounds of birds. The hotel staff never said "no" to anything we asked of them and were very helpful in planning excursions. The poolside bar was cute and the bar staff (Mr. Chid, Mr. Phol and Mr. Tum were awesome!!!) went out of their way to make cocktails that weren't on the menu. Happy Hour was something we enjoyed every night of our stay. And the spa Happy Hour, which was during the day, was also very nice. My wife and I were happy with our decision to stay here from the moment we arrived until we departed and found ourselves wishing we could stay a few more days. It was a wonderful experience. And, some reviewers have correctly noted that it is a little out of the way, but we loved the peace and quiet and there is a free morning shuttle into town (first come first served) for people who start to miss the crowds and street vendors. We, though, were happy to enjoy those aspects of Thailand in Bagkok and instead savor the natural beauty on this lovely island. Oh, and the sunsets here are indeed amazing.

We spent a few nights in a Beach Villa and a few nights in a Garden Villa due to availability. The Garden Villa was relaxing with a secluded private pool & garden area, but had no sea view. We moved to a Beach Villa with a lounge as well as a bedroom, sea view ( including sunset view from room), a larger secluded private pool & garden area with sun loungers and a Sala . This was first class! Excellent for honeymooners and wedding anniversary celebrations. We just wanted a quiet relaxing holiday before going on to Australia and that us what we got. The hotel is next door to the Intercontinental, which is built up the hill and has beautiful views from the pool & restaurant. It is possible to visit there by taking the golf cart courtesy service from the Intercontinental beachside pool. Our restaurant was very good and we ate there most nights including a sunset meal on our beach. There is also a beach restaurant about 200 yards along the beach which was good for drinks or a meal for a change.

We stayed 6 nights at this hotel in Feb 2013. The condition of this hotel was pretty good. Its definitely not 4 star. Its more like a 3 star resort. Very quiet mainly couples that stayed. No screaming kids which was good. There's not much food choices at the resort and you only have the intercontinental next door and the five islands restaurant. Beach is very nice. Quiet and very little people. The provided kayaks and sailing boats by the resort is very handy as the water is always flat and perfectly suited for kayaking. Highly recommend booking a long tail boat to do some fishing and snorkeling. Taxis to cheweng beach is very expensive expect to pay 800baht or you can rent a scooter for 300baht a day from the resort

We had a great time at Sunset Beach Resort. The service is exceptional compared to other resorts in Koh Samui. The breakfast is the best part of the resort. The only downside is that the rooms need some new sheets and the jacuzzi had leaves falling into it. Overall it was a great location.

we've ordered the hotel only by the internet recommendations and it was even better than we could expect. It looks like paradise. the only thing you should know is that the location is 30 min drive from any tourist center..which i think is great because you get to have a great rest and a fantastic holiday!!

Don't expect to do much at this hotel - its secluded and peaceful. Exactly what we wanted. A couple of pointers - there is a couple of ladies down the beach that does massages at 1/4 the price of the hotel. Also, there is an absolute superb restaurant a little further down the beach (about 2-3minutes walk) thats has really nice food and really cheap (that's if you don't mind that it doesn't have white linnen on the tables). Would definately recommend this place but maybe not for much longer than a week.

Value: Acceptable price; Service: Sufficient, Polite; Cleanliness: Tidy, Neat; Overall, overated in comparison to other 5 star properties but great tranquil location.
