Barceló Maya Palace - All Inclusive

We stayed at the palace Jan 31-Feb 7, grandparents and 9 and 15 year old grandsons. We all enjoyed ourselves and never had any issues at all. Food choices to please everyone. Super clean resort. We have been here before multiple times and once again it was a great place to be. Can't wait to come back again.

I will start the review by saying that the resort itself is beautiful and the rooms are spacious with great air conditioning. The staff were also wonderful and super helpful. We chose the resort for the number of things to do for kids. But the waterslides were small and neither they nor the surf feature were open at all during our stay. The dolphinarium had closed (thank goodness for the dolphins’ sake ❤️). And the bowling alley, video game space etc were not as advertised at all and our kids didn’t wind up spending any time at them as a result. As a vegetarian, I found the options for food very limited and neither my kids nor I liked the taste of most of the food offered. There were also no lattes that I could find and I didn’t care for the coffee so I went nearly the entire trip with no caffeine (tough when you’re used to your daily latte). The beach was piled with seaweed and while you could tell resort staff were doing their best to clean it, it resulted in us only spending a total of 1 hour in the ocean for our entire stay. Our room safe broke and we had water dripping through a light fixture in the ceiling. Maintenance staff were quick to come & repair it but it just added to the number of things that resulted in a less than enjoyable stay. There are dips in the ground by the basketball court at the resort that I wound up tripping in, resulting in a trip to the local hospital and a months-long recovery for a severe sprain. As a result, I will never return. It was the worst vacation I have ever been on unfortunately 😕

Best family vacation ever. Everything is top notch at this resort and the cocktails are fantastic. Service is 100%.

We had a great time again here. Rooms and facilities were clean. Good weather, good food, and a nice area to enjoy with friends and family.

Number of issues with stay. Spoke with duty manager day before departure. They said you need to raise the issues in real time so as that we can resolve them. We did. Several times. Still all unresolved. Errors were made with the booking. Air conditioning was not working. We had to wait longer than we were told we would for certain things. Furthermore, the food, drink and service were just generally poor.

Clean and well maintained rooms. Delicious, high quality food. Beautiful beach. We loved seeing the tropical fish and swimming with the sea turtles. Drinks at the beach/pool bars were very inconsistent in strength/quality. Use caution in the rooms as housekeeping staff stole from us during our stay.

Be sure to wakeup early to get towels to reserve your spot at the beach or pool or you will not find one. I believe that some people get towels for both and move back and forth, very frustrating to be left looking at so many unoccupied chairs covered with some ones towel. A bit selfish!

Great location, location, food and service. Lost one start due to change in bookings (our group was all booked into the Colonial and only some of us were upgraded which created friction and tension in the group and we were not all together as we were anticipating).
