Araucaria Hotel & Spa

We liked the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. The hotel was very clean and the location was perfect.

The ski storage area was outsourced and there was no designated storage for guests of the hotel, so your equipment is left in the shop, where everyone is passing and is consequently mixed with other equipment. There were a couple of large groups staying in the hotel at the time, these groups were loud, inconsiderate and made using the hotel facilities such as the spa, very disruptive and not at all relaxing. This also interferred with meal experience in the restaurant and use of the bar. We were on holiday for a relaxing break, not to be among very large loud groups that you could only escape by staying in the room, which was tiny. We wanted a quiet short break away as a couple in a nice hotel, for what was included with half board, we have stayed in hotels that offer more, in a more relaxed environment and at a better price.

Araucaria is located in a nice spot right at the core of Plagne Centre. You can easily access by foot the main lifts (requiring a bit of walking though - it is not a pure ski in / ski out as I've experienced elsewhere). It was nicely conceptualised taking advantage of a not-so-big building but including all needed services - warm common area, spa, buffet restaurant, ski shop. However, I felt the hotel was not being managed up to the standards it was built. Service was ok but not exceptional - I do not remember a wow moment when I felt the staff went beyond what was expected. The restaurant was nicely designed, with attractive food stations, but sometimes the food was not very good. As an example, fruit choice at breakfast and dinner was very poor. We had a family room which was large enough and nicely designed but it was not very well cleaned.

Great location and service, next to the ski station, ski shop on the hotel, great service. Breakfast was good.

Had a week here with the family over the Ski Feb half term. The hotel was excellent, overall a very enjoyable stay. The location is 1 minute from the slopes with a very helpful ski shop. The hotel arranged taxi transfer for us which worked out perfectly too as the driver knew the best routes to avoid the queues. The restaurant food was very good and bar area was really nice. Things that were great: * Location * Staff * Overall quality of food * Amenities * Kids food * Airport transfer Things that could have been better: * Rooms for 3 were a little tight but more than manageable * There could have been a little more warm vegetables with dinner, loads of salad and fruit but hardly any veg to choose from.

Lovely bar area next to chill out area for kids.

High price at the time we visited but was over Christmas
