The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth

This property is in the perfect location to all the walkable restaurants and stores Mammoth has to offer. Just a short Gondola Ride or 10 minute drive from Mammoth Mountain as well. We stayed here for an extended ski weekend and the room was very spacious and property is well maintained. It is a little bit dated but overall a very pleasant experience. The staff was exceptional and the only down side was the restaurant on site. That is the only area I would say needs improvement in the customer experience and food quality.

I have been staying at the hotel for a week and a week to come. A fuller report will be posted but so far things are great. What's wrong with hotel's room photos? The sofas and bed headboards in their photos don't appear in any customer's trip photos. Has anyone stayed in a room that looks like the photos posted by hotel?

Our recent stay at The Westin Monache Resort, Mammoth was unfortunately far below expectations, especially as a loyal Marriott Titanium Elite member. The one clear positive is the excellent location near the village and mountain. However, nearly every aspect of the service experience fell short of what travelers expect from a Westin or Marriott resort. It is important for prospective guests to understand that this property operates more like a condo community than a traditional full-service hotel. Units appear to be individually owned, and the on-site management experience reflects that reality. Aside from the Marriott branding and use of the Marriott reservation system, there was little evidence of a true Marriott resort experience — no consistent elite recognition, limited service coordination, and none of the polish typically associated with the brand. Our Titanium status was not meaningfully acknowledged — no upgrade despite apparent availability, no welcome amenity, and no recognition of a child’s birthday (something we’ve consistently experienced at other Marriott properties). Mid-stay, we were required to change rooms because an owner would be arriving and needed the unit we were occupying, despite other comparable rooms appearing available. This caused significant disruption. Tyler was the only employee who demonstrated strong professionalism and made a genuine effort to ease the situation. Front desk interactions were inconsistent and at times uncomfortable. We were incorrectly told that the resort fee covered housekeeping; when we asked for clarification, staff became pushy, and later defensive when printed materials contradicted that claim. Simple billing questions were met with irritation, and communication between staff members appeared disorganized and, at times, condescending. Valet service was another major failure point. Cars were frequently unavailable because the valet attendant was also driving the shuttle and not stationed at the property, forcing guests to retrieve their own vehicles. Front desk staff acknowledged the issue and agreed to refund valet fees, but the refund was never processed, requiring additional follow-up. We also witnessed curt responses to other guests at check-in, reinforcing the impression of a team lacking alignment, training, and accountability. In short, this property feels like a condominium complex operating under a Marriott flag rather than a true Westin resort delivering Marriott standards of service. Travelers expecting the typical Marriott resort experience — particularly elite members — may find the disconnect frustrating.

Management was very attentive and helpful. From every detail parking to room necessities. Casey Roscoe was exceptional

We had a luggage issue on our first day and the team here was awesome about it. Bruce, Tyler, Alejandro, and Gabe all helped us out, comp'd us dinner, and were super gracious & helpful the whole time. Turned a challenging start into a good situation and will definitely come back.

We missed a few years of visiting the Mammoth Lakes area during the Fall season. We finally made it back in October and stayed at the Westin Monache, as we have on past visits. This visit was primarily to see the Fall colors, and we timed it perfectly. We had a great stay at the hotel, the staff is very friendly and helpful, and the hotel could not have been better. We received good advice from the hotel bartender about an area that we had not been to before to see the Fall colors. Hopefully, next year we'll visit again and of course we'll be staying at the Westin Monache Resort.
