Rooms on house share a bathroom. Area has solar electrical so they restrict usage after dark as they do not store it well. Just know what you will be getting

"Lush, beautiful atmosphere for a gorgeous stay on the Big Island"

9.0

The property itself is beautiful! Lush and gorgeous. We were glad we stayed in the main house so we had access to an extra bathroom (though one of the bathrooms outside of the main house had an amazing outdoor shower, so we used that too). As other reviews mention, the kitchen closes (like literally the lights go automatically off) at 9 pm until 8 am, but that wasn't an issue for us. It was clean and there were lots of games for us to play and tons of things to use - snorkel gear, bug spray, suntan lotion, etc. It was cool to have a private room but feel many of the benefits of staying in a hostel. There's a cute dog on site as well as quite a few cats. I would definitely recommend this place to others! We also loved the private waterfall. We were here when there was a tsunami warning, and although I didn't see anyone actually on site at the property, I was able to be in close communication with one of the property managers who helped us feeling safe. Also, we loved the breakfast situation where we were able to go to a local bakery and get breakfast with the vouchers - it felt like we were getting to eat out and experience the town, but without spending any extra money! All in all, thank you to Hamakua - we loved it and would totally come back!

If you want someone on the property to talk to in person, this might not be your place, although there was a thorough guest book that let us know about some of our favorite experiences. While we liked going out to eat, the food was only ok at the bakery. It was not loud at all like some other reviews say - in fact it was SO quiet that we felt we had to whisper. We were so tired that it was fine but you might feel intrusive if you wanted to talk with friends any time after 9 pm. Also, the room itself was kind of hot - again we were so tired it was fine, but I might recommend bringing your own fan because the one provided barely even had a breeze (and there's no AC). A huge pro for me is that this place was so environmentally friendly - all of the water comes from rainwater, and all of the electricity from solar power - but that does mean that it has to be used sparingly, so I know that could be a con for some people.

"Für eine Nacht im Dorm okay"

Die Fotos entsprechen nicht wirklich der Realität. Ansich ein schönes Anwesen mit Charme, doch etwas in die Jahre gekommen und bräuchte mal wieder eine „Auffrischung“

Homestay like environment on a beautiful property. Clean house and comfortable bed. Quite, country setting, yet conveniently located less than half an hour away from all the city amenities. I loved the waterfall. There are also cooler, umbrella, snorkeling gears to borrow for free onsite.
