We arrived late and could not get in as the self check in code were not received as advertised. When we finally could get in, bed sheets were missing. Towels were used by previous guests. It was no covers. Window were not closing properly letting strong air get in. Really not recommended

"Loved "Mr. Ed" whom ran/owned the now defunct bakery and is selling his jam/ souvenir store. T"

1.0

The breakfast was a coupon for a breakfast sandwich at a baker in the next town. The baker is closed-hasn't had electricity for the last month and is closing permanently. So we collected our breakfast at the jam/souvenir store next door. I was supposed to receive check in instructions by email. We arrive Finally after driving down a 1 lane dirt road thru the jungle, at 4. Couldn't get in. Finally found a girl lounging in her bunk. They have 4 girls who get a free bunk instead of wages who do the cleaning--transients. They have a room with 2 bunk beds--10 x 10. She had an emergency number and called--although this wasn't her job! The so-called manager, Rosie--never got my contact number right--but she gave us the code to our room. Room at the vert top--I had told them my friend is 99 years old and I'm 85.. The stairs up to this Ttic room were so steep we had to go up and down pn our hands knees. The communal bath, old worn-out towels and washcloths, was on the floor below us. At night, all lights turned off. We had to leave our door open because if it closed, we couldn't see the code box to get back in. The room was so small, you had to put your suitcase on the bed to use it--not even a chair. Only 1 window opened anymore. Rates: We were charged almost $150. for this dump. The 2 of the other 4 guests were charged $83.--same accommodations. The other 2 "guests " we never saw or spoke to. No TV NO nada. Dim lighting from 1 lamp in room Out in the middle of nowhere No restaurants within miles or a grocery store They also rent out cabanas--open aIr with hammocks--10x10 for $25 a night. Outdoor toilet and sink provided up the hill.

Everything Pictures are totally deceptive!! Reviews must be fake. It is camping at its worst

"Our favourite stay. Truly amazing in the middle of nature."

10.0

A wonderful guest house close to Hilo. Absolutely amazing stay and indeed one of our favorites. Many activities around and great offer. Don’t forget to visit (and have breakfast) at legendary Mr Ed‘s Bakery. Wonderful rooms, wonderful common areas. Friendly and super helpful staff on site. Peaceful place in nature. We miss it and will be back sometime indeed.

We truly loved it there.

Hamakua House was in a peaceful location. Beautiful, clean room. Very comfortable and a well equipped kitchen. The nearby swimming hole with a waterfall was utterly delightful and the vouchers for a free breakfast at Mr. Ed's was a true bonus and yummy. We enjoyed our stay there.

Beautiful property with nice view. TV with Netflix was a plus.

Some of the common areas need better cleaning. The rooms were clean though.
