We had a very nice one-night stay at The Confederate House. The building is beautiful on the inside, and the room (we stayed in the smallest of three rooms...the Gen. Jackson room) was very nice...large bathroom...spacious shower. The proprietor is a lovely woman...very gracious and helpful. Breakfast was very good. The building oversees Forsyth Park...a huge expanse of grass and trees, with non-stop activity...dog-walkers...joggers, etc.. The free shuttle bus stop to the riverfront area is directly in front of the building...very convenient. On the down side...there are 10-12 steps on the outside, just to get to the front door...and two more short flights inside to get to the rooms...not for the disabled or weak-kneed, or those with heavy or bulky luggage. Check-in time is 3 p.m. (we had a to kill a few hours after assuming it would be noon-ish...easy enough to do though, in Savannah). Wi-fi was spotty...limited channels available on the TV Despite some negatives, we would stay there again.

Pros: good air conditioning, nice decor, good location, free off street parking, baked goods and coffee always available, fridge & microwave in room, big bathroom, huge closet. Cons: no WiFi, tv remote works poorly, no tv channel guide, bathroom door doesn’t close all the way, inside handle of bathroom door falls off, should have combination lock on front door.

"Wonderful B&B experience "

Owner was very nice and a great conversationalist. The room was clean and comfortable with personal in suite bathroom. The freestanding shower was so big you could throw a party in there. The lobby had that old southern welcoming charm and class, even had a piano in the bay window. And the courtyard was just darlin with the roses and beautiful fountain. We had the best homemade banana-blueberry pancakes i have ever tasted for breakfast (wonder if she can ship me some!). It was nice & quiet, didn't have to hear unruly kids hollering and running up & down the halls like at big hotels. Felt very secure with the security cameras all around the building. Free public trolley stop literally right outside the front door. If you are looking for cold, impersonal, sleek & modern go somewhere else; but if you are looking for beautiful old southern charm that makes you slow down and enjoy your get away then this southern lady is where you want to stay.

We were very cold in our room because of the AC and no way to control it.

Great location, and baking a cake for our arrival was a nice touch, but this place is pretty shabby outside and in. Colleen told us more than we wanted to know about her bad Yelps and fights with her neighbors. Missing basic amenities like a towel rack in the bathroom, HDTV and end-tables on both sides of the bed. The carpet in the room was dirty. For breakfast, rather than asking what we wanted or even letting us serve ourselves, Colleen brought each of us a plate of biscuits and gravy and grits. No selection or other options.
