The Imperial Torquay

The housekeeping staff were lovely. The view was okay... just a road. Breakfast was awful,overcooked rubbery eggs, veg option was terrible, cold,tasteless, rubbery.

The breakfast was absolutely awful, rubbery, overcooked. Fruit was good but that was about it! The front of house staff were not helpful, any questions put to them, you just got the answer, 'I AM NOT SURE.' The parking situ was lie. They said they had no option to upgrade saying there was absolutely no availability even though I offered to pay for it then they offered it 5 minutes later to the couple behind us saying an a room has become available... surely it should be first come first served! (and no, I had been speaking to the couple for 15mins prior and they were not even a member, whereas I was!) The hotel did not even bother to look at any of the requests and said they never received an email until they found it and just said, 'OH!' and left it at that. I was really really disappointed with the place, the customer care and the overall cleanliness of the hotel. There were mugs left near the bar area for 3 days, no one cleaned or picked them or the dish up.

The period charm and grandeur ( built 1866); cornicing and cupola in reception sweeping staircase - you won’t ever get this in a modern hotel. incredible sea views and position; great staff; wonderful breakfast with an unsurpassed view. The people who say it is tired are missing the point of its age and how much it must cost to maintain the hotel. It is great value for money in my opinion.

Tatty, tired, worn out and miserable feeling in the hotel. Staff looked fed up, decor was tatty and dirty. We booked two rooms and a lunch at the Imperial Hotel and were so disappointed that we checked out just a few hours after arriving. The experience started badly before we even arrived, as we tried calling reception on two separate occasions and nobody answered, finally when we did speak to someone she was miserable and cold. At check-in, the receptionist seemed irritated rather than welcoming. While waiting for lunch, we overheard several other guests making complaints about the service and tattiness of the place, which immediately raised concerns. Unfortunately, our own dining experience wasn't much better. We waited around an hour for three burgers and a Caesar salad, in an almost deserted restaurant. Dessert arrived another 45 mins later as a melted scoop of ice cream sitting in a puddle. The hotel itself felt very tired and dated. Corridors were scruffy, stained carpets and peeling wallpaper/paint, overall lacked the comfort and quality we were expecting from the photos and description online. The atmosphere throughout the hotel felt gloomy, and many of the staff appeared unhappy and disengaged. To add insult to injury, we were asked to pay extra for parking (£10 outside or £20 in the underground car park) despite already spending a significant amount on rooms and lunch. Overall, the hotel felt neglected, the service was poor and the atmosphere was depressing. We arrived at around 12:30pm and had checked out by 4pm because we simply didn't want to stay it really wasn't very pleasant. This is not something we have ever done before, but the experience fell so far below expectations that we felt we had no choice. After leaving I followed up with the hotel.... I'm still waiting for a response over a week later! A very disappointing stay and certainly not value for money.
