We really enjoyed our stay here. Dennis and Romi were fantastic. We got great recommendations for dining and tours from Romi and Dennis. The breakfast was great each day. It included juice, coffee, gallo pinto, eggs, toast, and fruit. While I was here I overheard the statement that this hotel isn't for everybody. I agree with this. If you are expecting luxury accommodations at this price you will be disappointed. However, what it lacks in luxury, it really makes up for in hospitality. Staying here is an experience. One of the best parts is that the guests were all so interesting and friendly. There were many opportunities to chat with guests in the courtyard over breakfast or coffee at any other time during the day. Socially, this was the best experience of our visit. Obviously, this can vary based on the guests at any given time, but I do think this place attracts people who are a bit more social and adventurous and not so stuffy. We were really lucky to be invited a birthday dinner at the hotel during our stay. The food was the best we had during our stay in San Jose, and it was so nice of the family to include us. The downside is that the location makes it a bit noisy at times. If this is a concern I would recommend not staying in the rooms facing the busy road. Room 1 has a great shower though, so this makes up for it.

proprietor was very friendly, spoke great english and was helpful in all aspects. i am going back soon and will stay with them.

1. Staff goes out of its way to tell your guests about your other guests. 2. Pay $20 per guest in cash and then said you did not pay them.

I stayed here for two nights in July 2016. It's kind of a funky setup. I had to walk around the back, through a sort of common kitchen area, and then up a set of stairs to get to my room which overlooked the corner of Calle 9 and Avenida 9. Fortunately, the weather was a little cool as the room lacked an air-conditioning unit. It did have a ceiling fan, however. The room was a bit cramped with the double-sized bed, small writing desk, and armoire. I kept bumping my knee against the large wooden bed frame. Also, I was unable to get a good wifi signal from the room. I had to go down to the common area to use my laptop or cell phone. It's in a centralized location. Close to bars and restaurants.

I stayed 3 nights in this characterful arty gem of a family run hotel - a beautiful cooked to order breakfast and relaxing garden, older but clean and interestingly decorated rooms and helpful friendly staff. Super central with lots of eating and shopping nearby and very safe/secure (although taxis are best at night). A comfortable and clean room for the price.

Excellent staff. Incredibely helful and spoke good English.
