"Charming hotel close to downtown"

8.0

I stayed at the Hemingway Inn for four nights and was delighted in its Key West feel. The staff was very friendly. The free breakfast (3 choices: pancakes, eggs and toast, and Gallo Pinto with eggs and toast) was hearty and cooked to order. The room was very clean and the shower always had hot water. Truly a good value for the money. And I will stay there again. As a solo woman traveler, I always felt safe there. It is situated in Barrio Amon, a section of San Jose that boasts great restaurants (check out Zero Army across the street and La Criollita just a couple of blocks away) and architecture.

"Exceptional"

10.0

Nice place. Rooms were large, had wardrobe for storage, a safe, large bathroom, tv. No AC though but didn't need it as it was cool. Breakfast had 3 options: pancakes, eggs and toast, or eggs and rice. Reception was friendly. Location is about 5-10 min walk from central ave. Was a little loud in the morning through the windows with regular noise (cars, dogs, birds, people) as we had to have the window open for air, but that's expected noise from the streets. Overall nice.

checked in, went to the room, looked around and saw problems, checked out and went to a hotel two blocks away that was great. Staff at Hemingway were unresponsive

"A family run place with loads of character"

6.0

A charming hotel reminiscent of a simpler time when hotels were a little more idiosyncratic and family-run. Not the Hilton, BUT the sheets, room and bathroom were clean, the bed firm, everything worked, and the place had some character. Free breakfast and great coffee. Safe and secure, and in a neighbourhood with a good vibe. I'd consider it great value if, like me, you can't see the point of spending a fortune on accommodation. Of course you get what you pay for in this world, so if you want more bells and whistles, pay more somewhere else.

"Nice hotel, close to city center.Nice neighborhood"

8.0

Stayed in the hotel two times within a month. Facilities are clean. It is an old place with charm. Some rooms are wonderful with great windows looking out on the city. Other rooms are enclosed with no windows and a little confining. The neighborhood is great. Felt safe walking downtown even at 10pm. Fairly quiet, although the street in front is a rush hour artery with lots of traffic in the morning. Otherwise, pretty quiet. Very nice internal patio. Complimentary breakfast is sufficient. Staff is efficient.

"The room not satisfied"

4.0

It was a single room right at a corner next to kitchen. You could hear all the noise and people's conversations. The liner was simply wet; under repeated requests, it was replaced to nice and dry sheets. The hotel was book together with airline ticket, so I don't know exactly its rate.
