"Decent quality budget hotel"

8.0

Genuinely pleasant place with a very nice host. He gave us some interesting local tips and was happy to help out with anything we needed. They happily collected us from the airport, for a reasonable price after we emailed them. The rooms are nothing special, but then nor are the prices. You want the full 5 star, red carpet treatment then don't bother coming here, there is more character than bleach within these walls, and the place is better for it. We were with a group (Intrepid Travel) who moved most of our tour to a place down the road due to some political thing with the host. We were already booked in for the previous night so opted to stay here. Very glad we did as the rest of the group were very unhappy about the place they got dumped in.

"Great spot in Downtown SJ"

10.0

Definitely not 4 star, but a great character and nice setting even though it's right downtown. Awesome breakfast and very friendly staff. Will definitely stay there again. Comfortable beds, hot showers. Cooked to order eggs/fruit/pancakes for breakfast. Coffee 24/7.

"RUDE STAFF"

2.0

My family booked 3 rooms for 2 nights. A week in advance I called Hotels.com to cancel our last night. I reviewed the reservation thoroughly-our first night still remained and was paid for. AFTER the last night was canceled, I notified the hotel of our late arrival of 1am. They replied to my email that our rooms were paid for and our late arrival would be fine. When we arrived at 1am, jetlagged with three very tired little ones, the young lady at the front desk SMIRKED while telling us that our reservation had been completely canceled. I had done my due diligence by printing our confirmation but she still smiled and said,"I don't know what to tell you. Your reservation was canceled." I even had her pull up the email between myself and Hemingway Inn. I asked her why they would say it was okay for me to arrive late and confirm my payment if our rooms had been canceled?! She continued to smirk. I told her she needed to find us another place to stay. She seemed agitated but called Don Carlos Hotel. The staff at Don Carlos was very accommodating and we are so grateful to them for their hospitality during such an unfortunate situation. As we walked off, she had the audacity to say,"And what if the rooms were canceled? We are going to have to pay for your rooms at the other hotel so now we are out that money." Speaking with a Hotels.com rep, the rooms were, in fact, NOT CANCELED. It was an error made by Hemingway Inn. An error they did little to remedy.

"This was my 1st and last stop while in Costa Rica "

8.0

I was so pleased with the price point, location, and friendly staff! I met some nice people while staying there and enjoyed my room(s) very much. This is a budget hotel, so don't expect luxury by any means however my rooms were clean, the free breakfast was wonderful, and the location was central enough but tucked away in a safe quieter pocket of downtown. A bonus is the hotel across the street, the Don Carlos, had 24 hour security guard outside, so sitting outside to smoke or just arriving was a safe experience. I will return here time and time again so long as management stays the same! Thank you! Mellissa Toma

"Great location for seeing downtown San Jose"

6.0

Great location in quiet, historic Barrio Amon neighbourhood and walking distance to everything downtown San Jose has to offer. Room was very simple but comfortable. Not your average hotel - it feels more like staying in a room in someone's house.

"Quaint Hotel"

8.0

If you are stable on your feet is is in a great location, and quiet with fabulous staff, and a nice breakfast. There is an adequate kitchen for guests. there are little steps and big steps all over the hotel. There is a 5" step up into the bathroom area from the bedroom area. WiFi is good, TV has lots of channels with lots of sports, many in English and some other languages.
