Hemingway Inn

It was a good, reasonably priced send off before we flew home the next day. Deacon, the owner, was really friendly and VERY helpful, recommending a GREAT restaurant for our "last supper" and letting us know about the departure tax we had no idea we had to pay to get out of the country! He's only been the owner for 5 months, so he's actually done an impressive job, creating a cute little B & B in the midst of the hub-bub of San Jose.

I was traveling on the ground via Tica bus from Panama to Costa Rica to take a flight next day out of San Jose back to the US. The Tica bus arrived in San Jose 6 hours late, arriving in the city at 2am. Hemingway Inn refused to "open the door" for me. I was left alone, single woman, with limited Spanish speaking skills, on the streets of San Jose with no where to go and no cell phone available. A very dangerous situation. I was able to get a taxi driver to call the Hemingway Inn hotel, several times the receptionist refused to open the door. Fortunately, the taxi driver took me to another hotel where I was able to rest from my horrendous experience.

Dennis the owner is really great. Very nice and very helpful. The place is simple. It's no 5 star resort, but the place has charm. It's clean, as clean as any Costa Rican Inn. Location is pretty good, fairly safe area considering it's San Jose. Overall a great experience! I'd stay there again anytime in in San Jose again.
