Somatheeram Ayurveda Village

If you think this is a hotel... DON'T GO THERE! It is a "luxury" (read til the end) Ayurvedic HOSPITAL. By booking on Booking.com, we logically thought we were dealing with a hotel. What a surprise when we arrived. They call us "patient" and they want us to sign a document including a whole set of obligations including compulsory consultations with a doctor and food program. We obviously refused. The presence of this establishment on the Booking.com site is therefore largely misleading and plays on misunderstanding. Especially since during our entire trip to India, he was the only one who debited the entire amount beforehand without the possibility of cancellation. The breach of trust with the establishment was immediate. If you go there knowing because you look for AYURVEDA retreat in a HOSPITAL ... Treatment IS NOT included in your booking price. The place is beautiful, magical and the staff lovely. Food level : if you are not in a therapeutic approach, it totally lacks flavor. The establishment does not contain a bar, impossible to share a friendly moment over a drink. No smoking area (this is why you ll see the staff run to the beach to smoke. Hypocrisis situation) . Always controlled when you go outside the hotel. We met some other guests having the same feeling to be in jail. Our air conditioning broke on the first day. The fridge broke on the second day. Noise level, the Village Church 100m away will wake you up every day at 5:30 am. The songs and prayers last a good hour and are broadcast through loudspeakers. Every day, at least 1 hour of mower and engine noise for the maintenance of the park, 5m from the swimming pool. Forget the idea of "luxury and silent retreat". Our room was not cleaned the first 2 days. The clientele is mainly elderly and single people, in treatment. The hotel charges you for its shuttles at double the price of what you can get via taxi. If you like animals, don't go there.

The food

The restaurant staff (we used the Ayur Soma facilities for meals) were extra helpful and very friendly. The location and view from the sea facing cottages are wonderful.

The cottage rooms could be done up a bit better - compared to the Ayur Soma rooms they are a bit older.

Everything from the pickup, arrival greetings, room with sea view, delicious food, Ayurvedic treatments, excellent service, attention to detail, excellent staff, beautiful location, well kept gardens etc.

I cannot praise this beautiful village highly enough. Such a healing place. The staff go out of their way to be helpful. The facilities are exceptional, amazing pools and the Ayurvedic treatments are taken very seriously and delivered with absolute commitment. The meals are prepared according to the Ayurvedic concepts and Dosha types. The grounds are lovely. The beach nearby is a public one but with a section for the hotel staff.
