The Lodge at Cedar River, Shanty Creek Resort

We stayed at the Schuss village which was beautiful, and our room was spacious and perfect for our family. They even provided a roll away bed. They gave another location on site that’s called the Lakeside, and that’s the one I wish we had reserved. The rooms had a view of the lake, and on-site restaurant with servers. The Schuss location had a restaurant but no servers. Everything was order and go. No free breakfast. But a beautiful property!

Excellent location surrounded by fields and woods and Cedar River golf course. At this time no daily housekeeping.

Nice resort. The rooms were very nice, clean and spacious. The bathrooms are so nice and roomy. Pool was okay, wasn’t “resort style.” Hot tubs need an update, one was under construction. Overall it was a nice hotel and we def stay here again!

Do not go here. Nothing to do for a resort. Restaurant closed.

We loved the scenery and atmosphere of the hotel but our room smelled like cigarette smoke and weed and it was a non smoking room. The carpet had stains everywhere . The front desk man was very cold and not welcoming. The restaurant was disgusting. We were seated away from the entire restaurant, basically forgotten about our steaks were not cooked to order and our server never even came back to check on us. I would stay again but would bring food and ask for a different room if it smelled like it did.

A/C was shut off for season. After a string of warm days and what felt like a room that had been buttoned up during that time, it was easily 80 plus degrees in our room and it did not cool down until the following morning. Very uncomfortable sleeping. On top of that, people were partying all night, well past quiet hours. When I went to front desk to ask for some assistance with asking fellow guests to possibly keep down noise, they were annoyed that they had to call security but finally did. Quiet hours are the hotels policy, not mine. When security arrived, they were afraid to knock on door of individuals being allowed, so, I did. Security said that if I don’t not go back to my room they would call police on me which I responded ‘please do, maybe they will do something about asking individuals to keep noise down’. I wasn’t looking to ruin anyone’s fun, just be respectful to other guests, that’s all. I never raised my voice or threatened anyone. Hotel staff became frustrated with me however, more so than the actual individuals breaking their policy. Nevertheless, noise finally subsided and was able to get to sleep after midnight. I would not recommend based solely off of my experience with staff and the inability to properly heat/cool room. I was looking forward to stay and never, ever write reviews but I felt like a fair warning to others about this accommodation would be necessary. Find someone else to stay if customer service matters to you.
