"Housekeeping Vendetta? And, lots of Goose Poop."

6.0

On our first day, we called guest services as we left the room to make sure that housekeeping made up the room. When we returned to our room, we noted that DnD was not on the door. But, our room had not been serviced. The front desk person and the front desk manager informed us in no uncertain terms that the room was not cleaned because we had left DnD on the door. They didn't say that housekeeping had reported DnD on the door. No, they were certain and insistent that we had left DnD on the door. In fact, the manager informed us that housekeeping had checked our room 3 times and always found DnD on the door. We are experienced travelers who ALWAYS remove DnD to get our room cleaned. We like having a clean room and know that we need to remove DnD. We are also sensible people who can admit a mistake. Had we left DnD on the door, we would merely have called housekeeping, admitted our mistake and asked to have our room cleaned. Very simple. The next day, we contacted guest services again when we left the room and texted them pictures of our door with DnD on the inside and nothing on the outside. We were informed that our room would be cleaned "immediately". 5 hours later when were were about 30 minutes from the hotel, we asked if our room had been cleaned. After some delay, they responded that it had not but that housekeeping would do it immediately. We contacted them again when we approached the hotel and were told that housekeeping had not yet finished cleaning the room. After being gone for 5 hours, we had to wait to get into our room. When we arrived at the room, the comforter was in a pile on the bed. Housekeeping did mange to pull up the sheets and tuck them in. For some reason, housekeeping decided to leave a folded sheet in our sink. Clearly somebody ran in at the last second and did a slap dash job of "cleaning". At least we got clean towels. Again, the evening front desk manager could not understand why we found this to be bad service. The rooms are old and poorly laid out. The only closet hangs your clothes above and onto the broom, vacuum, trash bin, and recycling bin. The bed and couch nearly fill the main portion of the room with little or no space for luggage. We looked out on the quiet pool. One of the protected Hawaiian Geese, Ne Ne, occupied a spot by the pool all night and most of the day. Each morning there were 10-15 goose poops on the edge of the pool. Some poor guy with a broom and dust pan comes around to pick them up and rinse them away. The goose returns throughout the day to make additional deposits, which are eventually picked up. Some poor guy also walks the sidewalks through the resort all day sweeping up goose poops and rinsing the spots. We chose to avoid stepping on the spots left after sweeping and rinsing. I hope the poop patrol men get combat pay, but they are probably at the bottom of the pay scale.

"Westin Ocean Villas."

6.0

In July, 2024, I received an unsolicited email from Marriott for a 5 night stay at the Westin Ocean Villas at a special rate. It stipulated that my husband and I attend a 90 minute presentation of the Marriott Vacation Club for purchase. The presentation was scheduled the day before our departure. When my husband stated we would not be purchasing the package, the representative, Kyle, became upset and hostile, saying words to effect “why did you come if you’re not interested?” He continued to be upset about questions we asked regarding the assumptions being made as to cost and terms. The sales manager and the last person who spoke with us were calm, but I think they need to assist their sales force to be able to accept a no graciously. The buildings, our room and staff were very nice.

"Paradise rediscovered!"

10.0

On the beautiful, lush green island of Kaua’i and sitting on its northern tip so close to intoxicating sight of Hanalei Bay, sits one of the great Westin Resorts. The Princeville Ocean Resort Villas are in the very exclusive Princeville Estate in the shadow of Mount Wai’ale’ale.. By-laws prohibit buildings to be higher than the highest palm or coconut tree. So, this resort of stunning villas is low rise with views of the gardens and the pools, close to the ocean. The whole resort is kept immaculately. The villas are all complete with kitchens, washer/dryers, comfy beds and cozy seating areas. Two giant pools are encircled by flower-filled gardens, loungers, and cabanas. There is a kiddies’ pool, too. Outdoor massages can be had looking towards the ocean and other amenities include a fitness suite, a marketplace and a fine restaurant (Nanea). Comparisons do not always convey the best picture. Invariably, such me might want to compare the Princeville resort to the other spectacular Westin Resorts on Maui. They are different (both excellent) just as Kaua’i is different to Maui. As the Islands each have a different ‘heartbeat’ so with the resorts. Princeville is quieter, less hectic than Maui and that what makes it special. If you can, come an enjoy a special piece of Paradise.

"Expected Better"

8.0

Because of the name Ocean Resort, we actually thought we would see the ocean from the resort. The shower/tub was difficult to enter and exit. The tub was slippery. It needs a mat for better balance and safety. The bed was uncomfortable. The pillows for us were too big and lumpy. The heavy comforter was too heavy and hot. We didn’t use the air, and as such the heavy comforter wasn’t used. There needs to be an extra lighter blanket for use. We look for a trash can and only found a very small plastic container in the bathroom. It was sufficient for all the trash. The screen door lock did not work. As such we didn’t feel comfortable leaving the glass doors open. The restaurant door and service was amazing. The chicken poop on the tile floor next to us and chicken jumping on our table grabbing food was troubling. We probably wouldn’t return to the resort.

"Beautiful Resort with Stunning Location but a Steep Price Tag"

8.0

The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas is an impressive property located in one of the most lush and scenic parts of Kauai. My stay was short—just one night—but it left a strong impression. The pool is a standout feature, set right on the water with incredible views. The jacuzzi pool is equally fantastic, perfect for relaxing after a long day of exploring. The resort also has a gym, which is functional but nothing over the top—just what you’d expect from a Marriott property. The rooms are clean and comfortable, though not particularly extravagant. My view was of a parking lot, which was a bit disappointing, though the ocean beyond the cliff made up for it. The staff was friendly, which added to the experience, but parking can be a challenge. The spaces near the rooms fill up quickly, so you might have to use the parking garage, which is a little farther away. As for the cost—this place is pricey. My stay was around $900 a night, which feels steep even for a property in a high-demand area like Princeville. It’s clear the location is the driving factor here. Princeville is absolutely gorgeous, with its lush greenery and close proximity to Hanalei Beach, one of the most stunning beaches on the island. That said, keep in mind the area is pretty remote. There’s only one grocery store nearby, and you’re far from amenities like Starbucks or restaurants found on the east side in Kapa’a or Wailua. Also, the region tends to get a lot of rain, but that’s what makes it so green and beautiful. Overall, the Westin Princeville is a fantastic spot for a luxurious getaway if you’re prepared for the price and the more secluded location. The scenery and pool alone make it a memorable stay.

We have a running list of everything that was atrocious about this hotel and it won’t fit here. For starters this is NOT a beach hotel. If you want to go to the beach, you walk 2 miles down a slippery dangerous trail and past homeless with no signage. The concierge will have you believe because an exact quote “no where else to eat” and only one hike relatively close - that there is nothing else to do there because they want you to spend all your money sitting at their pool eating either wildly overpriced and 2 star food. The concierge was unbelievably bad. The doors didn’t lock to the entrance of the building. It’s loud all night. You can’t use your deck because the ducks literally attack you. (I have pictures) However at night, guests can bang away at your door which is horrifying. I have never had a 1 star stay but this was it. Only perk is we hated them so much we forced our self to never eat at the hotel which was great because Hanalei bay is 8 minutes away and it’s absolutely amazihg.

Loved the property but my “Oveanview” room overlooked the parking lot which was a HUGE disappointment. And Because i booked on Expedia, we were given NO Marriott points after spending $2200.00, and altho my husband is a Titanium member, we ordinarily have perks like late checkout but not given. We will never book with Expedia again!

What a beautiful property. The beds are luxurious. I had an amazing nights sleep here. The North side of the island is pretty quiet in September but we loved it.
