"Not What I Expected."

6.0

We are MVC owners and this was the first time we stayed at the Westin Princeville. The resort grounds and views were very nice. The only thing I did not like about the resort was the NeNe and the NeNe poop all over the place (on the pool deck, in the pool, lawn areas). Also there were a lot of rosters, hens and cats roaming around the grounds which is not expected in a higher end resort (we did not see them at 1 Hotel Princeville). The Unit we stayed in was spacious and clean but the sofa was a little worn. All the kitchen appliances were on the newer side. I most likely will not return to this resort. Didn't feel safe using the pool because of the NeNe poop.

"First time up North"

6.0

We have been to Kauai many times but have always gone to the south side of the island since I love to dive. We decided to try the North side this trip. First off you will need a car to get to Princeville. A shuttle or Uber are expensive and you need to have a car to get around since the walkability to places is zero. We came in early from CA so are room was not ready until 4, we ended up not getting into our room in till after 5. They said I would get a text when it was ready which I received a half hour after we got into our room. We were in a ground floor unit so we asked to be moved to a 2nd or 3rd floor room. They said they would call us the first of the week when people had left. They said they were at full capacity which I read on other reviews. Seems like a often used excuse. The rooms were nice. We had a one bed premium room. The bedroom was large with a king bed and the bath had a jacuzzi tub with a separate large shower, dual sinks and a washer and dryer. kitchen was large with an island, oven, micro, cook top and all other items needed for a stay to cook. They also have a lot of BBQs around the resort which are cleaned every morning. I was impressed when I used them to cook steaks one night. Plus they are hooked to natural gas and easy start up directions. The resort had a main pool in the center and a smaller pool off to the side both with a spa. The main pool also has a children pool with a slide. They have plenty of pool furniture out. We didn’t have a problem getting them when we went to the pools. There was plenty of parking onsite. If you are a MRV owner it is free, otherwise it is $30 per day. There are no resort fees. They do have a small market onsite. They sell a 2’x2’ pieces of foil for cooking if you need it for $1. No need to buy a full roll. I thought that was very thoughtful. Prices are what you would expect at a resort. They had just opened up the restaurant on Mother’s Day. We did not eat there, the menu is limited. The issues that I have seem other people complain about are the NENEs , Hawaiian geese. They are protected so they have free roam of the island. They walk around the pool areas and grounds and like geese do, take a poop! They have a full time NENE patrol that cleans up after them. They sometimes go in the pool soooooo watch out when you go in. The other item that we were not a fan of was the pool was only 3’ deep. Hard to swim in only 3’. We also found out that the beaches in Princeville, are hard to get too. Either you have to walk down steep dirt paths or drive to them and find parking. Then most of them have NO SWIMMING due to the high surf and rip currents, most don’t have life guards. Don’t get me wrong they are beautiful! But not being able to cool off in the ocean is a drag. The Resort was nice but it’s location, Princeville we are not a fan of.

"Beware--NeNe Goose Poop on Pool Decks and in Pool Water--All 3 pools"

2.0

My husband and I visited for the first time March 2, 2025 to March 7, 2025. We are MVC owners. The Westin Princeville Ocean Resort Villas and grounds are beautiful and the staff is very welcoming. However, but no one will disclose that there is NeNe Birds (State bird), which is actually a Goose, that poop all around and in the pools. Not only is this highly unsanitary but it's also a health risk. It's on/in all 3 pools. Kids were running in the poop on the pool deck then getting in the pool water. The birds were also bathing and directly pooping in the pool during the day. We did not get in the pools at all. We complained to multiple people and they stated there is nothing they can do since it's a State bird. We spoke to the General Manager and he said it's "something they cannot talk about". The hotel did not disclose any of this before our arrival. MVC did not post on the owner's website under "Know Before You Go" for the hotel either. My husband and I cut our trip short and left to go to another hotel for the remainder of our trip! BEWARE before you book! Note: the pictures attached were taken by us during our stay.

"Great Family Fun"

8.0

Beautiful hotel grounds and pools. We booked a studio room in building 4 facing the ocean, mountain and golf course. The room has a full size refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher, two burner stove top, microwave plus a washer and dryer. There are designated bbq areas too. The amenities include coffee pot with coffee, cream & sugar, laundry soap & softener, dish washing soap, dish soap and all the utensils and dishes, pots, etc for 4 people. Spacious bathroom with a jacuzzi and separate shower. Very clean room. There are several pools available for families, a great little kid pool, and a pool for adults. This is a great place for families. There is a restaurant and a small market. About a mile from the hotel are more shops, restaurants and grocery store. It’s located on the north side of the island which is more relaxing and rural. Lots of beaches, hiking and fairly close to other small towns.
