Hotel Tirreno

This was our second trip to Hotel Tirreno in Tropea, Italy. The stay was amazing! From the wonderful pool / bar area to the amazing breakfasts on their garden patio. Service by Stephania was terrific along with all the super friendly staff. Truly a wonderful experience! The hotel also had a private beach area which includes lounge chairs.

If you are looking for a comfortable, welcoming and overall pleasant experience, you have come to the right place! This family owned and operated hotel prides itself on providing guests with a memorable experience. The rooms are spacious and super clean, and the grounds and pool area are well maintained. The sea is just a 5 min walk from the hotel and shuttle service is available to and from the beach if you need it. Aside from the hotel amenities, the staff make this hotel a true gem! Thank you, Stefania, Gianni and everyone at Tirreno for making our family vacation in Calabria a memorable one. A presto!

We did not know much about the region of Calabria or the town of Tropea but after some research we fancied a week away to explore the region.. Fast forward to us booking separate flights and the hotel direct. A big thank you to Michele and the team at the hotel for making the booking process so easy, prompt communications to handle any questions and to be able to arrange a private transfer for us to / from the hotel at a competitive price. Even better that the hotel booking was payment on departure. From savings we made by travelling to / from the UK on a Sunday we opted to upgrade to a junior suite with a sea view and so glad we did as the terrace space was excellent and overlooked the pool with a sea view and a view across to Tropea which was great for sunsets. Michele was a great help in accommodating our preferred room request as well. The hotel is well positioned just outside Tropea which is walkable and about 1.5 miles to the centre, albeit the region is hilly. What is great is that the hotel offers a free shuttle bus to / from the town centre running 3 time back and forwards in the evening between 19;15 and 22:30 and this is a great facility given how hot the region can be in the summer. You can book on the bus single / return journey at reception and if the bus is full (typically 8 people per trip) they also do an additional run. There is access to a private beach area on the main beach with complimentary sunbeds snd again there is a shuttle bus option running at 3 intervals during the day and this is about 0.5 miles away from the hotel. The hotel was clean throughout and well maintained and the pool area was excellent in terms of size, sun beds and the snack bar area which was great for drinks in the day and snacks plus was open in the evening for drinks. Breakfast was a buffet with good selections of hotel and cold food and a lovely outdoor terrace areas with parasols for outdoor dining. We didn't utilise the hotel for evening meals as we were B&B only but they do offer a half board option. Finally a big thanks to all the staff at the hotel as they are so friendly, professional and accommodating and nothing is too much trouble for them - they made us so welcome and our stay so enjoyable.

We stayed here very recently for 2 weeks. The staff were amazing, Giovanni and Veronique at breakfast and Stefania and her team at dinner are a real credit to this hotel. The pool area is quite secluded and lovely and peaceful and there is a poolbar (run by Giovanni) from 10.30am which is open throughout the day with salads, sandwiches and bruschettas on offer for lunch. Dinner is spent on a very picturesque terrace and is a 3 course affair with a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian (chosen in the morning) for starter and main course. The starter portions are huge so forget about your waist line and the there are a large selection of Calabrian wines to choose from. It is cheaper to buy a bottle as a glass is 6 euros and doesn't go very far. The hotel runs a courtesy minibus to the beach throughout the day and trips into Tropea at night. The hotel is situated next to the Hotel Piccolino and run by the same family. We enjoyed their rooftop terrace at night for after dinner drinks which has spectacular views of Tropea. The hotel is sited on the edge of town and is a 15 minute walk to Parghelia railway station but is well worth it as you can travel cheaply to Tropea, Pizzo, Scilla and Reggio Callabria. All in all we had a lovely stay and the hotel and staff exceeded our expectations.

This is the fourth year that we have finished a trip around Sicily or Calabria with a stay at Hotel Tirreno. The hotel is consistently brilliant with very comfortable rooms, very good food, great pool and beach area and above all Stephania and her staff are brilliant and friendly and make sure you enjoy your stay. The hotel is close to Tropea but sufficiently removed from the crowds that you can enjoy the peace and beauty of the area. I look forward to staying there again next year.

I think this was out fifth visit to Hotel Tirreno and it didn't disappoint. We were on a TUI holiday with half board and our room was located in the main building. All rooms and bathrooms are cleaned daily and are immaculately clean and comfortable with very efficient air conditioning , which we certainly needed! Breakfast catered for everyone and was always very fresh, you ordered your evening meal in the morning and there was always plenty of choice, dinner was served in the beautiful garden. All the restaurant staff were very knowledgeable about the food and able to suggest excellent wines to accompany it, they were all friendly and genuinely interested in the guests. The pool area is beautiful, again very clean and well maintained with plenty of sun loungers, although a few more parasols would be good as it gets very hot and there aren't enough to go around, it is very peaceful and quite there. Drinks and snacks are available from the pool bar, the salads and bruschettas are particularly delicious. The hotel also has a private area on the beach with a lifeguard and runs a minibus to and from the beach a few times during the day. It is walkable but the walk back in the heat is uphill and hard work especially for us 'older' people. It is also walkable into nearby Tropea in the day but the 200 steps up to the town when it's hot are very hard! As I said we have visited this hotel a few times but it was only this year that someone suggested taking the train from Parghelia into Tropea to avoid the steps - why didn't we think of that?? Proves you can always learn something! The hotel also runs the mini bus into Tropea a few times during the evening so you can experience the lively town. We love this hotel but the main plus is the family and staff who run it, they are all so welcoming and friendly and go out of their way to make sure their guests have a wonderful holiday and the number of returning guests proves it. We can't wait till next year.
