"Anniversary Break"

10.0

This is the 6th time we've been here. Staff so friendly and helpful. Rooms spacious and very comfortable. Beds so comfy. Delicious buffet breakfast with many choices. Already booked again. Staff can't do enough for you. Brilliant central position surrounded by pubs and restaurants but very very quiet despite the proximity.

"Avoid room 205"

2.0

Let me start by saying I don’t like to give poor reviews and I wish I could give a higher rating but my recent stay has been awful from start to finish. I checked in on Tuesday with my teenage daughter for a two night stay. My daughter is a huge fan of The Beatles and our visit to Liverpool was predominantly Beatles themed so I thought this would be an ideal hotel. Admittedly, I was quite naive as I was not aware of just how noisy some rooms could be. I booked direct through the hotel and prior to arriving I requested a quiet room. This request clearly fell on deaf ears as we were duly allocated room 205. The room itself was dark, drab, a bit worn and the carpet had seen better days. I wasn’t expecting luxury though and as we had a busy itinerary it was adequate for us. On a plus being a corner room, it was spacious and Ringo Starr themed ( my daughter’s favourite Beatles member so she was pleased). We also arrived at lunchtime and wasn’t expecting the room to be ready however it was - this was appreciated. As my daughter is not of drinking age, we tended to have a busy day but head back to the room around 8:30pm with the intention of relaxing for a few hours before having a relatively early night. No chance! The front of our room faced the main road and the side faced Matthew Street. We were right next to a club playing live music and the music was blaring with thumping bass from several other venues. It felt like we had a live band in our room. It wasn’t background noise, it was literally blaring and we may have well just moved our mattresses onto the venue floor! I rang down to reception and asked if there was any chance of being moved the following morning, the lady was empathetic but advised the hotel was full but to head down the following morning which I duly did however, whilst pleasant, the lady I spoke to said it was impossible to move me as the hotel was full and when I asked if no other guests were checking out that morning, she replied by saying all the other guests checking out had higher room categories than me and it would mean moving new guests into a lower room category. I was in a standard double and found it hard to believe no other guests were checking out in this room category. As I walked away two other guests approached me to advise they were checking out and been staying in standard double rooms, both guests were the other side of the hotel - they gave me their room numbers so it appeared the receptionist lied to me and gave a standard generic response rather than make an attempt to resolve the issue. She did offer earplugs which I found rather patronising and surely hotel management should realise if they are having to provide earplugs then the room isn’t fit for purpose! My daughter is autistic and unable to wear earplugs but the receptionist wasn’t interested. The noise did get marginally quieter around 11:30pm as the live music stopped but there was audible music until 2:00am. When I thought I could finally get some sleep, within a few hours the bin wagons and rumbling trains below us started! Admittedly, the second night ( which I was dreading) was a tad better. The music but not quite as blaring as it had been on The Tuesday so presumably less live music. Don’t get me wrong, it was still loud but more of a bass and background noise and slightly more bearable. Now given the hotels city centre location, noise is obviously expected. Bin wagons, traffic noise and trains are out of the hotels control and for me it’s largely white noise. I do however believe the hotel should warn/advise just how much noise the lower rooms close to Sgt Peppers ( and other venues) can potentially face. I booked direct with the hotel and there was no mention of any of this on their website. Had I have known how bad it was going to be on that first night, I’d never have booked. What left a really bad taste in my mouth was the fact the receptionist blatantly lied to me. There were several other guests complaining also about various issues. I noted there were several large tour groups of predominantly American guests and the staff seemed to look after them very well, it made me wonder if they are given the better rooms. I am checking out today and cannot wait to get back home. I really wish I could give a higher rating but the room was dark, cold ( towel radiator didn’t work and temperature couldn’t be adjusted in the room) and the hotel just felt a bit grubby and dated. We ate outside so cannot comment on the food but other guests said it was average to poor. When outside the hotel, we had a nice few days in Liverpool and tried not to let the hotel spoil our visit. Whilst most U.K. city centres have similar high streets and shops, we still enjoyed an afternoon of shopping. The Beatles tour and landmarks were worth doing and I found the people of Liverpool to be warm and welcoming. Whilst I had a nice few days, the hotel spoiled our stay somewhat and I would never return to this hotel.

"Great location- a few Small tweaks and would be five stars."

8.0

This is my second visit to this hotel. This time we travelled as two couples.. we booked exactly the same room rooms with balcony. The first room was on the fourth floor and was large with a large bed and we realised after going to our friends room that the second room on the fifth floor was half the size. Maybe this was because it was a corner room.? the bathroom was also a lot smaller with a small bath. The price was exactly the same.. The staff on reception were welcoming as were the bar staff. The only problem was when it got very busy there was a long wait for your drinks, but they were always very polite. We had breakfast on the second day, which was good value. They used to be a little coffee area on the ground floor, but now that looks like it’s turned into a bar? It would be nice to have somewhere downstairs to get a coffee and sit in the lounge area provided. No water was provided in the rooms and when I asked if this was correct, I was told this was part of a Green initiative. Also in both our rooms the shower door did not open properly as the shower/bath was situated next to the toilet and the shower door could not open so you had to get into the bath to have a shower from the lung end and it was awkward to turn the taps on. The beds were very comfortable. Our room was quite large and the temperature stayed the same but the second room where it was quite Small was very hot even though we could open the balcony door doors. Fantastic location and in the centre of all the action so can be a little noisy. On the Saturday night, we could hear music until at least 2 a.m.- not sure if this came from the wedding or the adjacent pubs and clubs. Overall a good stay.

"Pleasant Hotel with Uncaring Support Staff"

4.0

The hotel is on sacred ground, just around the corner from the Cavern Club. It is a walkable distance from the Royal Albert Dock and good restaurants, so the location is perfect. It has a Beatles theme and friendly desk staff. The rooms are pleasant. Their restaurant food is average. Go out to eat, if possible. The hotel contributed to an excellent time in Liverpool, a city that impressed us very much! Despite being pleased with our stay, we had a very unpleasant situation with them that developed after check out. It caused time and trouble for us and an unnecessary hardship for another person. There was a mix-up of keys at checkout, which was entirely my fault. I had accidentally taken a physical hotel key home, which I had because my plastic card was not working. Upon checking out, I stupidly left my rental home keys at the desk instead of the hotel key. Realizing my error when we reached home that evening, I contacted the hotel, determined that they had my keys, and made arrangements to mail back the hotel key the next morning, which I did. I also informed the property owner of the problem. We asked the hotel to return the keys to the owner's address, which they agreed to do. Problem solved? Not even close. Unfortunately, the owner informed me that she never got the keys. After multiple emails, the hotel stated that they had to have a 15 pound fee before they would do so, which I paid. (It cost me about 3 pounds to send back theirs.) Even so, no keys were sent back despite them knowing that the owner was desperate for them. Multiple emails and international calls were made over a three week period to try and inspire them to act. The owner eventually had to rekey her home. She also intervened directly with the hotel (accounting) and they finally stated they had posted the keys. Hopefully, they did so. I realize this was an unusual set of circumstances that other travelers are unlikely to experience, but it does indicate extremely poor customer service and a lack of empathy toward others. Why a business would deliberately treat customers and a fellow host this way is beyond me.

"Nearly perfect"

Great hotel, fantastic rooms with plenty of Beatles nostalgia. Location excellent. Would have given a 5* had the reception staff not been so dismissive and unhelpful about parking query on checkout.

"No duty of care to public wellbeing"

2.0

No duty of care to public! Appalling attitude from management. Don’t appreciate being implied to be a liar ! Went in for a cocktail with friends. After approaching barmaid for directions to toilet she turned while chatting to her colleague with a full tray of Guinness and crashed into me. An accident yes no one questioned that. But then after it took four staff to clean the mess, no one can to see if I was okay? Hurt? Dry ? My outfit was saturated it was very early evening so I had to either go home or buy a new top! I did the latter. When a Barman passed by our table , only when my wife said ‘ would you like to ask my husband if he’s okay?’ Did the Batman say’ oh what you want a free round or something!!’ Eh no absolutely not, we won’t ever go back there nor would I recommend the place … disgusted at how we were treated on the night and after.. we have subsequently been offered a meal but declined, as no we didn’t want a freebee! But do feel they reimbursement for replacement top is the minimum they could offer since no dry cleaning was offered on the night. They have the receipt showing date and time and picture of damaged top. Honestly for a large establishment I wouldn’t bother .

"Best location for everything in LIverpool!"

8.0

Great Location in Liverpool! We wanted to do the Beatles tours and museums and this hotel is in the perfect location for the city and the dock area. Around the corner from the Cavern Club and Restaurant and a quick walk or ride to the dock area. Lots of shops and restaurants in the area.

"Does not live up to the hype."

4.0

The photographs on the website are not at all representative of what the rooms actually look like! Save a couple of hundred pounds and book a Premier Inn - at least there you’ll get a comfy mattress, excellent tea and coffee facilities, a high pressure shower, extra pillows and enough plugs and lights! None of these were present at Hard Days Night.

"Choose the right room!"

8.0

A unique boutique hotel well placed in central Liverpool, right next to the famous Cavern Club and the Cavern Quarter and a 15 minute walk from the regenerated docks. Dont expect much sleep if you take a room overlooking Mathew St as the music is pretty loud and very late.. quiet rooms are available on the other side of the hotel though.
