"Relaxing and Quiet Marriott Vacation Club"

8.0

Beautiful setting for this somewhat aging all-villa resort on the Broad Creek on Hilton Head Island. The views of the beautiful low country marsh and sunset over the pool area are peaceful and relaxing. The two-bedroom apartment we had in Pelican offered only side views of the marsh from the quiet living room balcony, but it was enough to capture the serenity of Hilton Head. The furnishings were tasteful and stylish, although the master king size bed is very, very soft. The kitchen refrigerator ice maker did not work. The bedrooms and baths are a tad small; my husband and I split up the closets and two baths because there is little extra space. The resort offered activities. We went to the Spanish moss presentation and thoroughly enjoyed it—and we learned all about Spanish moss. Take it from me, don’t pick up a clump of it on the ground. The Bloody Mary Tuesday was great. The brat roast should have been great, but our host walked away from the grill and charred the brats on one side. The grills were all on one side of the pool, while the serving and seating were all on the other side of the pool and he was all alone doing everything so the overcooked brats can be excused. The Thursday wine hour and live music is not successful. First, the “wine” to be tasted came from boxes—yes, boxes—those cheapest of the cheap wines at the grocery store. Beyond terrible. I think the Marriott can afford to buy several bottles of real wine for a wine tasting event, don’t you? It doesn’t have to be Duckhorn or Trefethen, but something that at least tastes halfway decent. Although this was a RSVP event so attendance was limited, the “food pairing” was a little paper plate with three stale crackers, two pieces of pepperoni from a package of pepperoni you buy to put on a pizza, four cheese cubes and four grapes, all clearly from a grocery store cheese platter ( $9.99) that had been portioned out onto the paper plates. We were instructed only one of these paper plates per couple. Ouch. Stingy and not even very good to begin with. Finally, the live music was a local country singer with canned accompaniment of chords and drum beats. We did not stay long because our food and wine in our apartment was much better than the Marriott offered at this event. In summary: This is an enjoyable place for a quiet time. The beach, golf courses, and hustle bustle of chic Hilton Head are all on the other side of the island. A short drive or bike ride will get you to all that. If you want that other Hilton Head, stay at one of the other Marriott Vacation Clubs on the Atlantic side.

"Great Hilton Head Option"

8.0

We enjoyed our week-long stay at the Marriott Harbour Point. To start with, the staff here was fantastic! They were very helpful and friendly. We had one room issue, which they very quickly and professionally fixed and took care of. The villa/unit was large enough for our stay; the two bedrooms had decent separation for some privacy. The large living room and dining room allowed us to spread out, while the full kitchen was crucial for us to cook / store food / do laundry. We weren't expecting this, but while full housekeeping services weren't provided for a week long stay, they daily checked and provided clean towels, paper towels, toilet paper, laundry detergent, dish detergent, and toiletries as needed. The lobby was modern and inviting as a social / gathering space, although it did fill up quickly with some activities. As far as the activities go, we weren't expecting them at all, so this was great...three or four daily activities, spanning everything from pancakes, to bloody marys, to wine tasting, to educational programs, to pool and outdoor activities. This was a great and unexpected treat. The grounds were well kept (which is why there are blowers....we didn't mind at all, the staff was keeping the grounds in fantastic shape, and wasn't as nearly as obtrusive as some reviews make it out to be, lol), and had several different areas....the larger main pool complex (complete with a grilling area) was relaxing to hang out in, as was the hot tub. On the other end of the complex, there was another pool, although it was open during our stay. This end also included another grilling area, a large gas-fed fire pit, and a great, large gazebo and sitting area overlooking the marsh and creek. There is a small fitness facility on site, as well as basketball courts, pickleball courts, and tennis courts....all useable for no charge by residents and visitors. There is a bike rental option as part of the complex; the price for a weeklong rental was very reasonable ($45), although the single-speed bikes took some getting used to. This place was in walking distance to the Shelter Cove marina, but more like biking or driving distance to the Shetler Cove Towne Centre. There is an in-season shuttle between the resort and any place in Palmetto Dunes. Did I mention the staff? To a "T", they were all fantastic...very friendly, extremely helpful, and extremely responsive.

"Noise pollution"

4.0

Nice resort, decent amenities and great staff. As a previous reviewer mentioned, the gas blowers constantly going ruin the peaceful atmosphere. The resort smells of gas. And it’s honestly really terrible for human ears. Tried to enjoy a program in the lobby but someone with a gas blower was right outside in the vestibule. It’s maddening!!

"Wet floor/Broken glass in bed"

4.0

I have stayed at this location twice. The first stay was great which is why I revisited. The second stay was less than ideal. Our carpet was soaked when we check in, maintenance removed the fan after checkin. We asked them to bring it back the next day after we left for dinner, they did but they didn’t plug it in/turn it on. We returned from dinner at midnight to a still wet floor. We had to keep all of our belongings on tables/chairs for the duration of the trip. We also had to wear shoes inside. *There was broken glass on the bed when we checked in. The site offered BonVoy points but I feel some kind of discount would have been appropriate. They refused. I understand things happen but I won’t be returning

"Bad Experience "

2.0

Went to Hilton Head to celebrate our anniversary for a weekend stay. Was woken up at 9:30 Saturday morning to loud hammering and banging in the adjacent rooms. The service manager argued with me saying that the maintenance did not start before 10:00 AM. The manager offered me $50 in Visa cards when I paid $500 for two night stay as comp. Have stayed at this property before will not return
