The staff was rude checking in, we tried to put on my moms credit card, their machines was broken, Victoria said she would fix it, she didn’t. They charged me 2x we asked to move to the building a friend was in, she said no when another guy was trying to help us. She cut me off and was rude and dismissive-I’ve been a long time Marriott customer 25 yrs I won’t stay here at this resort again :( I had my 86 yr mom with me it was one night we left by 8am and they put us in back corner. Rude. then a manager called me the next day and accused me of reserving another room in the building we wanted. I said no we only came for one night. There are still 2 charges on my card. I guess I’ll call visa. Total cluster f- and 3 people couldn’t help us. The nicest guy was the brand new guy been there 3 days can’t rem his name-he was at least trying to help. SO disappointing. I will not stay there and I will tell people. It wasn’t nice and I didn’t deserve that. I was only there to help my 86yr mom see her friends after 2yrs we had to move her. The place was fine-kinda outdated and tacky fir $220 but it was clean. Bad taste when I was really excited about staying here for sure :(

"Gas blowers will drive you crazy"

Why would any company allow workers to blow a few leaves around for 4 hours on a Monday morning that are earshot of visitors sitting on their balconies overlooking a beautiful water view. If you are looking for a relaxing peaceful vacation, you need to avoid this place.

"Great staff but old smoke smell villa"

6.0

I am giving this Marriot property a 3 because the staff was fabulous- from reception to housekeeping. If it weren’t for them this would be a 1.5. I have stayed in many Marriott villas over the years (we are owners) and I haven’t ever experienced a room that had such an old smoke smell. I think they may have tried to “neutralize it” or cover it up with room freshener because on top of the old smoke smell was an “air freshener” smell. The odor was so prevalent it permeated our packed clothing. I had to wash all out clothing that we had packed when we returned home because the odor was so strong. The property is well kept but very old. I’m sure at one point smoking was permitted in the villas which is why it was so strong. I would have loved to rate it higher but I just couldn’t get past the old smoke smell.

"Nice visit "

Stayed here one night. Room was nice and clean. Pool and deck area was peaceful, marsh view was nice. Checkin was easy. We do not cook on vacation so can’t speak to kitchen set up. We stayed on the Sunset side.

"Pleasant not excellent"

6.0

We booked our stay late so knew we would be staying at an older resort. Plans are in the works for new windows and updated decor in the next 2 years. In the meantime, the resort could use some maintenance and upgrading of the quality of towels, fix the towel racks in the room, make sure everything in the room works (clocks, for example). When service is needed (soap in the shower, for example), it shouldn’t take over an hour and several calls. Concierge on the weekend only in a vacation resort area made it necessary for us to do our own planning. Nonetheless, we enjoyed our stay.

"Wouldn’t go back if you paid me to."

2.0

Where do we begin? We have been Marriott owners since 2012. Pros: It was close to the beach. They did offer a free shuttle service which took you to and from the beach and they would pick you up with your beach equipment. They also had bike rentals. The bikes are pretty basic and beat up, but did the job for a couple of days. A lot of people on property ended up renting bikes from other companies and having them delivered and dropped off because they had more accommodations such as attachments to the back of the bike for smaller children, bikes with car seat attachments, trailers for beach, equipment, etc. There is a full-size basketball court. Two Pickleball courts and two tennis courts. All of which was fun. The courts were open from 8 AM to 10 PM with the tennis courts closing from 12 to 2 so they could water it because it is so ungodly hot and humid down there. The pool was a really good time. We did not try the smaller pool as it did. It did not appeal to us. We stuck with the larger pool that was nearby the hot tub. The water was wonderful and refreshing and we enjoyed it thoroughly. They did say they were only open till 10 PM but never seemed to kick anybody out as people tended to stay longer than 10 PM. There is a small gym that has a decent amount of equipment and it overlooks the nice marsh. You are half a mile to a mile away from Shelter Cove community park, which is a very hidden gem. There are plenty of boardwalks at the park that walk along the marsh and you get to see alligators, anhinga, egrets, great blue herons, tons and tons of Sand fiddler crabs both at the park and on the hotel property. We even got to see a manatee. You are right near the marina as well, and can rent paddle boards, kayaks, etc. to use in the marsh which we chose not to partake in due to the alligators. Every Tuesday in July, they offered a free fireworks show on the marsh which happens directly behind the property by the big large pool and you can get a front-row seat from either the pool or your balcony, depending on the room that you are in We enjoyed playing in the basketball tournament that they had Andrew was awesome and we enjoyed having him play basketball with us and we wish him the best of luck with college playing basketball. The beach first time we went to the beach we used the shuttle that was free with the hotel stay it was OK. Our driver was amazing and she told us to go to Coligny Beach to get good souvenirs. We decided to go there and go to the beach and from there on out that’s a Beach we ended up going it is about a 12-minute drive from the hotel but you could also get there by walking to the Neptune statue in Shelter Cove shopping center and taking the free shuttle called the breeze. Coligny Beach had several showers and feet showers as well as swings to sit on, and a gazebo with reclining chairs to sit in and hang out once you came out of the beach it also had tons of shops and food choices. We rode our bikes to him from Coligny Beach one night. It was about 9 miles round-trip and it was a nice ride. Mini golf we ended up going to the legendary mini golf. It offers two different courses. It was a fun time. It was just very hot and humid. We didn’t wanna go to the other mini golf. That looks a lot more fun because it was pirate themed however, we were always wiped out after a day at the beach And never ended up getting there. Ice cream, hands-down the best ice cream would be a Hilton Head ice cream, which is on your way room to Coligny Beach so it is a must-have grab if you were going to or from the beach. Pizza Doughboys was good and is also nearby ice cream the pizza place does get very busy and the wait times can be up to 1 to 2 hours for pick up and or delivery. Highly recommend timing that out correctly and or just coming in for dinner which is a lot faster than waiting for pick up and delivery the pizza options were great and would eat there again. Room Cons I know the hotel is slated for renovations, however long gone is basic maintenance. The dishwasher was broken with a piece missing that you had a load, the dishwasher only in the back part. Otherwise, it would tip down and you would not be able to run the dishwasher. and it was not even installed correctly with exposed screws. Our first coffee maker leaked out the back all over the counter we asked for a second coffee maker the second coffee maker also leaked, but then the element never turned off so when he would put water in it, it would spit hot water at you because it would never actually turn off and you would have to unplug it to get it to turn off one of the cabinet doors wouldn’t open because of the fridge door one of the camera doors above the stove hits the ceiling when you’re opening it the bathroom fan was broken and sounded like a loud garbage disposal when you turn it on. There was no colander. We ended up having to go to the dollar tree to buy a colander so we can make pasta. We asked at the front desk if they had any calendars and they said no we don’t but we get asked that question quite often, so it kind of baffles me that they don’t think that that should be a standard item that goes into a kitchen I get that you get basic supplies but I feel that a colander is part of basic supplies instead we were given a small metal mesh strainer. The oven took 20 minutes to preheat and reach temperature. It continue to get hot and the food was done cooking by the time I eat I have reached the temperature, we are big to-eat at-home people and we cook breakfast at home every single day with the exclusion of the day we checked out. We also cooked lunch and dinner every day except one or two meals out so we do truly rely on utilizing the full kitchen and this one lacked in function and cabinet space. All of our food ended up having to be all over the kitchen bar and the countertops because there was no pantry or dedicated empty cabinet to put food away for a room that is supposed to have six people in it. There is no place for food for six people for one week. The second bathroom for the small bedroom is corner-shaped but does not even have enough counter space to put small toiletries on that as the bathroom is supposed to be utilized by four people, the two on the couch and the two in the bedroom and there is not even enough room for just two people let alone one person Hopefully the plan will include enlarging the second bathroom. The layout of the second bedroom, it’s just odd altogether it has a floor-to-ceiling window that opens up to the entrance of the front door so if you have small children, that is something that I would have concerns about having small children be in that front room with a window that can be so easily accessed by anybody walking by if they pop it open. I feel that there should be a more secure window, and or something higher up that would allow a little more security each room opens up onto the patio outdoor motel-type situation. There’s no indoor hallway which is nice. We enjoyed being on the first floor so that we do not have to ride up and down the elevator as we came and went a lot from the room to go and from the pool and beach basketball court, etc. Riding the elevator would be a hassle I feel. I could use a second hot tub. There is only one hot tub on the property and when you factor in that there are four buildings full of people one hot tub is not enough. The manager was very nice and took our list of complaints about the condition in quality of the rooms to talk to Maintenance about having the room properly taken care of upon our discharge we did specifically request that nobody come in during our say as this was our vacation time and we did not feel like we should be subjected to having work done on our room that should already have been up to Marriott standards, to begin with at our checking as owners. We are very disappointed that this was the condition that our room was in and that this is the quality that this facility chose to utilize as their standard. They did reassurance that this was not the normal standard that the rooms were kept in however, considering how dated the property is, I highly doubt that we were the only ones with issues within the property. Getting in and out of the property was also very cumbersome as the gates opened extremely slowly. The other issue came when you were riding your bikes, and you were trying to exit and you cannot exist because the gate does not register a bicycle as a car, so the gates do not open can you just have to hang out and either squeeze through between the gates to Open the enter gate or wait and hope somebody else comes and you can squeeze out with them. All in all the entire property needs a lot of work not just the rooms. This property was not worth my time and I will not be coming back again. We will be going back to Marriott SurfWatch the next time we decide to come back to Hilton Head Hilton Head is an amazing island, and we truly do love vacationing here. We just did not care for this property at all, I am also fairly certain about how detailed my review is that the property manager will know exactly who we are. I’m just going to end my review with my overall complaint that we relayed to Marriott every single time that as owners who have spent several thousand dollars invested into the timeshare, we still feel that the fact that you do not have any allotted room for pet owners to bring small dogs is completely unacceptable and this is across all properties not just this specific one.
