"Nice hotel, but full of hidden fees."

6.0

This hotel is nice enough and the staff is lovely, however, they hide fees and taxes that make you feel like you’re being ripped off. I was in for a wedding and whilst the room was nice and there are hot tubs and heated pools I didn’t get a chance to use anything; we were very busy for the wedding. I thought I had prepaid (they gave me room fee etc that I was charged) but I ended up being charged for much more… The valet OR self park of a whopping $45 a day (kind of insane) and the “resort fee” is another $45 per day. I was told about the parking at check-in, yet I wasn’t told about the resort fee AT ALL. I had to message them to explain my invoice after seeing my receipt because the girl checking me out actually just said I owed for parking. There are also like three separate taxes that you aren’t made aware of until you get your invoice after check-out. I understand these all exist, but I fully feel duped as I was quoted and paid for one price, then ended up owing almost double at the end of my stay. I would’ve liked to be made aware of these hidden fees before arriving so I knew what was expected. I travel very often and believe transparency is important. I’ve actually never had a hotel have so many insane fees without making you aware beforehand. Just be aware that you will end up paying the cost of the room in fees and taxes.

"Excellent hospitality, a top-tier ski valet, and a lively, family-friendly atmosphere"

8.0

Our stay at The Westin Avon was an excellent experience, thanks to the outstanding hospitality and thoughtful amenities. The staff went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable, and the beautiful common area with panoramic mountain views was a lively hub where families gathered to relax, play games, and enjoy snacks. What We Loved • Exceptional Hospitality & Service: Every staff member was incredibly accommodating. The valet team was top-notch—they tagged and delivered our luggage, loaded our skis, and made everything effortless. • Common Area & Atmosphere: The lobby and lounge area offered stunning mountain views and a great place to unwind. It was always buzzing with people, creating a welcoming après-ski vibe. • Cookie & Hot Chocolate Hour (3:30–4:30 PM): A daily highlight for kids! While I found the hot chocolate mediocre, the experience itself was fun. • Ski Valet: One of the best features of the hotel. They tag and store your skis, boots, and even ski bags. Everything is prepped and ready when you need it, whether you’re taking the gondola or shuttle. • Gym & Spa Facilities: The gym is fantastic, and the changing rooms include a steam room. The Anjali Spa has great infrastructure, but our experience with the masseuse wasn’t great. • Rooms & Room Service: Our mountain-view room was comfortable, with solid darkening curtains for a restful sleep. The bathroom was spacious, featuring dual sinks and a separate shower. The kitchenette had all the basics, but a few essentials like salt, pepper, and oil would have been appreciated. • Amex FHR Benefits: We received two drink coupons, a $60 breakfast credit per day, and a $150 Anjali Spa credit. While they couldn’t accommodate early check-in, we did get a 4 PM late checkout, which was great. What Could Be Better: • Mountain Access via Riverfront Gondola: While it has short wait times, it’s not the most efficient route to the slopes. It requires taking three lifts (gondola + two more) before reaching a skiable area. • Dining: • Stoke & Rye (the main restaurant) had a nice ambiance but limited breakfast options. • The Lookout Bar had incredible views, but the food was underwhelming. • Best Dining Option: A black food truck across the hotel served fantastic food—a great alternative! • Family Changing Room Issue: The hotel lacks a dedicated family changing area. They suggested using the accessible restroom, but that’s not an ideal solution. Most families just wrapped their kids in towels and walked them back to their rooms. • Pool & Hot Tubs: The outdoor heated pool and three hot tubs were great, but the hot tubs get very crowded after 4 PM. Other Notes: • Parking is $45 per night (valet and self-park are the same price). • Rooms felt a little congested, but we managed to find space for shoes. Final Verdict: Despite a few minor drawbacks, The Westin Avon excels in hospitality and service. The ski valet is top-tier, the common area is lively and inviting, and the kids absolutely loved the property. While mountain access requires patience and dining could improve, the overall experience was fantastic. If you’re looking for a family-friendly ski resort with great service, this is a solid choice!

Hotel facilities and rooms are great. However, the service is mediocre at best. Staff seems to be inexperienced. Parking garage is terrible. Overall, a great hotel but not what I would expect from the Westin brand at this price point.

"Great experience at the Westin-shhh don't tell anybody!"

10.0

The Westin was a perfect resort for us and we will be back! From the wonderful checkin experience provided by Lorena and Scott to the live music, hot tub, exercise facilities and ease of access to the mountain and skiing, this location is wonderful! Our living space was spacious, very clean and nicely appointed. Came for a meeting and will be back with our adult children and grand children!

"Disappointing Stay at the Westin Beaver Creek"

2.0

We had high expectations for the Westin Beaver Creek, but unfortunately, our experience was far from what we hoped for. For the high price of staying at this resort, we expected top-notch service and amenities, but the reality fell short. From service issues to poor food quality, the stay was frustrating from start to finish, with our last night being the most disappointing. On our final night, we planned a family movie night and attempted to purchase a movie "on demand" through the TV. After selecting a movie, we received an error instructing us to call the front desk. When called, we were told they were "out of that"—which was baffling for a supposedly on-demand service. After further clarification, we learned that the hotel offers DVDs and DVD players for guests, but they had run out of the movie we wanted. We found another movie, called again to request the DVD, and were told it would be sent up. It never arrived. Given the poor service throughout our stay, we didn’t bother calling again. The ski valet service was another issue. We arrived early to get my daughter to her ski lesson, expecting to grab our gear and go. However, after asking for our skis, they were never brought out. After waiting for a while, we asked the staff where they were. They then realized they had brought out the wrong family's skis and ours were still unaccounted for. When they finally found our skis, they were missing our poles. Since we were running out of time, my wife and daughter had to take the shuttle without me while I stayed behind to sort it out. Turns out the valet had left the poles in our car instead of checking them in with the rest of our gear. Luggage service was also frustrating. Upon arrival, we were told our bags would be delivered to our room and that we needed to be there to receive them. We waited a long time with no luggage, so my wife took our hungry kids to the lobby restaurant while I stayed behind. After another 15 minutes, I called the front desk to move things along. Called again 10 minutes later. Finally, our bags arrived just as I was giving up and leaving the room myself. I would have much rather taken them up myself than waste time waiting in the room. Speaking of the lobby restaurant, the food was below average. The pretzel bites were overly dense and looked like dark fried chicken. The mustard sauce was overwhelmingly vinegary and unappetizing. The wings were overcooked and under-sauced. Service was inattentive, and we had to hunt down our server just to get the bill. After that experience, we canceled our dinner reservation at Stoke & Rye, not wanting to take another chance on the food. For a resort of this caliber and the premium prices they charge, we expected much better service and attention to detail. Unfortunately, this stay was a major disappointment. The service failures were consistent throughout, and for the price we paid, it simply wasn't worth it. Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this hotel based on our experience, and we hope they improve their services to match the premium prices they charge.

The hotel was very loud late into the evening. Because the room is on the first floor and noise was significant. The evening valet left our skis out front creating confusion and delays getting skis for the kids in the morning. The kids were delayed an hour getting to lesson in the morning and this created challenges for the instructors and other children in the classes. I shared this concern with the Westin staff and suggested that, under the circumstances, I should not have to pay the very high valet fee. He declined to drop the fee and sent a hand written note to my office of employment offering a bottle of wine if we ever return to the resort. Not great service after the payments I have made to Marriott and the Ritz over the years. Would prefer not to go back.
