"We love this place - now please bring back the luxury"

6.0

We stayed in 66205 which we requested, our cleaner Laura is brilliant and very efficient, always smiling. We have been coming here for many years now and I am sad to say that the "Luxury" is missing. Yes, the grounds are well manicured, beach clean of seaweed and some exceptional staff. However, cold food which should be hot I find unacceptable. On on occasion I reported this experience at the pool restaurant as I could see they had a thermometer for the cold desserts. When they had only been open for 15 mins you would expect the buffet food in the bain Marie's to be hot - I was told it was my "perception" of what is hot. Unfortunately, this attitude from a senior member of staff doesn't bring hope for other restaurants serving cold/lukewarm food. We sent back meals in Naan, Meat and wasted food in others to avoid upset stomachs (which I had on several occasions). The best food to have is to have it cooked fresh. Staff in the Palmyra seem to have a wonderful time chatting at breakfast, but it is difficult to get boiling water for tea! When it does arrive it is usually in a teapot with a saucer balanced on top, really you can't afford lids? There is also a strange culture, where if you ask someone for a drink, who knows who will serve it, as it becomes Chinese whispers and eventually, if you're lucky someone might turn up with a bottle of wine , possibly the right colour. I realise that this hotel is under new management but you have stars who shine and then those who let you down. The Palmyra is very cold and I don't expect to wear cardigans or a fleece in the restaurant. The ladies toilets near the beach bar ..... Could someone clean the entrance door handle? Would it be possible for the doors to have handles and locks? The beach bar is excellent and William and the ladies deserve praise for their hard work and cheerful smiley attitude. There are some great entertainment events hosted in the lobby, but not enough seating and when this is the only area to sit in the evening (especially when raining) it would be so much nicer if the sound was lowered so that you could listen but also have a conversation. We have many friends (including staff) who we meet up with each year and look forward to some improvements next year. I think the days of "Turn down service and chocolates on the pillow" are gone but let's bring other standards up! Good luck for the future.

"Very Good But Not Exceptional"

8.0

The overall quality of Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar was somewhat below our experience at other Bahia Principe properties though we very much enjoyed our stay and would recommend Luxury Ambar to friends as a good 4 to 4.5 resort. (This is primarily based on the à la carte restaurants which we found not quite as good as, say, Luxury Akumal where we stayed last year.) Property itself was lovely and clean. Staff were friendly and attentive. Two other ‘pet peeves’ were: First, the quality of the in room mini bar selection was very limited, with only scotch and vodka available for liquors and only coke and orange soda available for mixers. Second, the lack of availability (throughput the property) of Canadian Whisky. (I was only able to find it at the lobby bar.) And the inability to get ginger ale. This was surprising given the large number of Canadian guests.

"Only use if you like being disappointed"

6.0

We had a lot of problems on this holiday despite being advertised as luxury it’s far from it, we had problems with air conditioning the fridge and the fan, all of which took several days of arguing with staff to get sorted, we had no hot water for the last 2 1/2 days of our holiday despite complaints from us and others they just kept telling us it was being repaired, my grown up son was with us and ended up sleeping on what was basically a camp bed despite the fact we paid the same price for his holiday as our own, The staff in the main buffet restaurant were brilliant unfortunately that’s where it ends as the food itself was a disgrace it was almost always cold and very repetitive we ate mostly in the à la carte restaurants when we were able to get booked in and the sports bar which has a very limited menu when we couldn’t, We’ve used Bahai principe hotels many times the last 2 including this one were very disappointing and left us feeling ripped off. Tui sent us a voucher by way of apology for £50 each on a holiday that cost over £9000 we told them they could shove it where the sun don’t shine. As a result of this experience we won’t be using them or Tui again.

"Nice destination, it’s Caribbean. Good choice for 1 week."

8.0

Friendly, good standard, nice room, personal is attentive, trying to make everything work. Buffet food exceptionally delicious. Interesting choices for specialty restaurants. Beach wonderful, but relaxing area crowded, chairs “reserved” with towels early in the morning, nobody there. ☹️😢 We liked the massage Spa. When booking the week, there were problems with making reservations: room, speciality restaurants. Internet connection poor. Several Phone calls with friendly people, but wrong information.

"Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar"

10.0

We were with my wife at Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar (Ambar - adults only). At all very nice, amazing area, everything is perfect. Exeptions: - Communication can be hard, 50% of the staff don't speak English (except lobby, they are perfect if you need something) - Bars - If you don't want to drink 5kg ice with every single cocktail, you need to tell to the barmen at least 3x - No ice or small ice otherwise they try to push. - Tourist shops are a joke - extremely overpriced - A sun protector spray 45$ swimming mattress small rubber 30$ (Normal price in the other shops out of the facility is the quarter) - the swim up pool is cold (but the best rooms) not worth £700 plus - the al la carte restaurants have very limited items on the menu the best options are for food the Playas and the Las Brisas, both have amazing buffet meals. A la carte restaurants: S.T.E.A.K and Limbo are very good worth to try. I cancelled the other restaurants bookings because the lack of selection (Portofino, Greek, Mexican, Japanese, Fish Market) - sunbeds around the pool - you need to get there at 7-8am and "occupying" the sunbeds with your towel + flipflops 😁, otherwise you can't get free bed. (Get there put your towel on, then is yours, leave it and back when you want, nobody will touch. Don't leave for overnight because the stuff collect all abandoned towels.)

"Bahai Prinicipe Lxury Ambar review"

10.0

Terrific venue with so much to offer. Beautifully maintained grounds. Overall, pleasant, friendly staff (although some, so-so...). Entertainment/activities had something for everyone, whether it was in the lobby, at the pool or on the beach, with staff jumping from role to role to role; sometimes even with costume changes. Such energy & enthusiasm. I especially enjoyed morning Spanish lessons with both Rolando as well as Grabiel (great guys & patient too). I did manage to pick up a few words & expressions, so muchas gracias. The bachata dance lesson was so much fun; I would have loved more of that (i.e. more songs to dance to). Speaking of dance... As a line dancer (& instructor), I would really like to see some of that at the resort, in addition. It's lots of fun. Start with the easy dances (with easily learnable moves), so anyone can join in... El Divos were especially magnificant but that's not to take away from the other varied musical shows (both musicians & singers). The acrobatic circus show was thrilling. Oh my, the talent... Our regular room cleaner was just amazing & so helpful; she always had a big smile & a welcoming hello, each day (Building 61 - Ygnacias Celente(?)). We managed to communicate effectively with my very poor efforts at Spanish. She is a true gem & definitely, a keeper! At the lobby bar, Mauri was most often our server. She was terrific & usually knew our order before we did. So friendly & engaging; don't lose her! The restaurants provided a great selection: again, something to satisfy all, no matter your diet or preferences. We enjoyed both buffets, the Sports bar, Portofino, the Meat restaurant, as well as the Fish Market, next door. I do, however, wished we'd known that we could have tried out more of the available restaurants at the other BP resorts on the grounds. Perhaps, it was mentioned, but there was so much to take in, initially. Regrettably, we realized that too late in our stay. But, we'll certainly know for next time. Two ladies, in particular, at the morning pool buffet (Ingrid, the greeter & a tall, slim lady (long, reddish hair?) were outstanding. Once, we sorted out our tea (honey & citrus for me + hot water & honey for my sister) & coffee (for the guys) wishes, they had a table waiting for us (for 4) each day & had our tea & coffee at the ready. Thank you, ladies. Charming, as well as attentive. Now, one thing did bother me. What you ask? Well, it was actually the other guests. It was such a surprise to see folks with such poor manners & lack of respect. Certainly, at times to the staff & sometimes, to see such waste. Some folks would order drink after drink after drink, then not even bother to enjoy it. I often saw tables filled with full/nearly full glasses & they'd bring back more from the bar (both lobby, as well as pool bars). Or, the same thing at the buffet. Why take that much food, if you aren't going to eat it? Just because it's an all-inclusive doesn't mean that you should abuse it. It makes us tourists all look bad. Also, it wasn't uncommon to see bare feet in the lobby or pool buffet, as well as no shirts for the guys or the ladies without wearing proper cover-ups in that area or the main lobby. In the main lobby, one guy came stroliing in with nothing but a towel wrapped around his waist. Really? Please people, have some common courtesy & respect! This is a 5-start resort, not the beach or a back yard pool party. We did find that rather uncouth. It's ok at the pool or the beach, but definitely not in the other common areas. Is there a dress code? If not, maybe post something? It should be obvious, but clearly, it is not. Afterall, this is an adult resort; there should be some common sense. Also, what's with feeding the cats when there are signs posted everywhere. Many times, people were feeding the cats just outside of the main lobby (on the path leading to the pool). The cats even got into someone's food tray outside of their room. What a mess that was! And, I even saw a couple feeding cats at their breakfast table in the pool buffet. Seriously? Who wants cats begging for food at the tables? In closing, we did 10 days, but have already decided that we would do two weeks next time. That's the only way this trip could have been any better. A most relaxing, enjoyable & entertaining vacation in the sun, away from the realities of a harsh Canadian winter. Many thanks BP, for a wonderful stay!

"Not a 5 star hotel"

6.0

Spent 14 nights here and unfortunately it did not meet our expectations. Buffet was limited choice and food consistently cold. Service ok. A La Carte was hit and miss. Some experiences were great, the Mexican was appalling both service and cold food and the Greek was just okay. Yurta was a great experience, we enjoyed Limbo and Meat. Very limited shade around pool or beach. We were up before 7 to see sunrise and not a single umbrella was available. Plenty of towels reserving beds! Not enough chairs in Lobby/bar area. We used bars at Aqua Marine as they seemed to have much more space and also the outside bar at Esmeralda was pleasant. No Coke lite/Pepsi Max on most days. Mentioned to Guest relations on a few occasions so they did put small bottles in the room but crazily not available in the bars. It’s a huge site with access to all areas apart from Fantasia. We liked to have a walk every day but you really to have to take your life in your own hands and the golf buggy/shuttle train drivers are mad. Also not very well lit paths, some buggy’s are black and they don’t always have working lights! Not sure if there was ever anything happening up in ‘The Village’. Shops and casino and function area/stage at the top end of Grand Punta Cana Hotel. Looked tatty and old. All in all, a very disappointing hotel. We have been to far superior 4 star hotels. I would not recommend this and in my opinion is not 5 star, nor is it Luxury.

"Not A Five-Star Experience"

4.0

Our stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar did not meet five-star expectations. I would rate it closer to a 2.5–3 star resort. We arrived at 2:45 p.m., and our room was not ready even after returning to the desk at 3:15. The staff initially tried to move us to a room directly in the pool area, but we declined due to the expected noise from daily parties. Instead, we were placed two units back from the pool. Unfortunately, we were next to a maintenance area and heard constant clanking carts and service noise throughout the day and as late as 11:00 p.m., making it difficult to relax. The property appears poorly maintained. In our room, bathroom dispensers were loose and difficult to use, the conditioner was never refilled during our stay, a dresser drawer fell off its rails, and a bedside light fixture broke and could not be turned off. Service was inconsistent. Staff often seemed bothered by requests, and simple items like coffee at breakfast were missed most days. We also met other guests dealing with broken air conditioning and no hot water. Overall, this was a disappointing stay and not the luxury experience advertised.
