"Definitely not 5 Star"

Hotel was lovely and clean,rooms spacious. Staff at the Sports bar are great as well at the snack bar by the pool.Thats as good as it gets. Check in is absolutely chaotic, nobody explains anything. Hotel lobby bar very busy, two people taking drinks orders,8 guest service agents wondering around. Lobby restaurant, the staff never look at you, they pour your drinks without looking,too busy looking around so spill half of it. Food not too warm but edible. We had no hot water four days out of seven and no water on one of the days, think I spoke to guest services more times than I did my husband. Don’t bother with the Tui Rep if you don’t want to book trips she’s just not interested. She seemed to genuinely dislike cruise passengers, that was the general consensus by guests. Sun beds are crammed together you do get to know your neighbours wether you want to or not , lots of umbrellas broken Entertainment staff are the hardest working Beach was lovely and the sea warm Book restaurants before you come, recommend the steak house. Need to take the word luxury off and call it the Amber, this is no luxury hotel

Very nice hotel which is adults only. Good choice of restaurants and very friendly staff. Entertainment Team were great & encouraging to those who were willing to join in. Rooms are a bit tired, could do with updating as paintwork was tatty. Air conditioning worked, but could not adjust temperature. Again, could do with being updated. All restaurants were nice if you pre-booked via the app. If you are at this hotel you are able to go to others next door. We had a browse in these, but they didn’t seem as nice and were also quite noisy during the day. Good idea to tip your maid on day of arrival, they work very hard & appreciate it. Punta Cana airport very slow, be prepared to wait…quite a while & very hot.

"Great resort overall"

Our stay at Bahia Principe Luxury Ambar in Punta Cana was absolutely wonderful. The service throughout the resort was exceptional, the food was excellent with great quality and variety, and the grounds were spotless and beautifully maintained. A special thank you to Alexander at Portofino for his outstanding customer service — he truly went above and beyond to make our dining experience memorable. We would also like to thank Orlando from the management team for his professionalism and attentiveness. Their dedication really made a difference in our stay.

Everything was great noise level wasn’t too bad but that was because our room was at a great location will definitely request to be in the same area any closer to the big pool I wouldn’t want to be it’s great for the younger crowd but I like it quiet and love the swim out room

"The hotel resort was amazing"

The hotel resort was amazing We were all inclusive which was great. The choice of restaurants and different cuisines was amazing You did have to book for ala cart so you do have to make sure you’re a k in time for dinner or incur a charge We booked our dinner one particular evening but our excursion over run We had checked how long it would be but it wasn’t accurate There was always a variety of buffet restaurants available so you never went hungry at any time Even a lovely coffee shop that did savoury snacks and pastries The other excursions were excellent and we get back in time for our food and other entertainment at the hotel which was also good There was always lots of activities and great entertainment the entertainment team were fantastic! Just be mindful we wanted to go scuba diving and we booked this through the hotel I had explained that I had asthma but they said you complete a health form first When we arrived at the diving venue we were given said forms to complete my friend was good to go But on the form it asked weather I had any breathing conditions which of course I had to tick yes because of my Asthma Then any back problems which again I had to tick Migraine was another I had to tick and finally was I on any medication and I had to tick that as well and I am despite all of this a healthy individual but what happened next left me flabbergasted The dive guy said that I wouldn’t be able to go scuba diving with 4 boxes ticked I was disappointed but understood the implications and I wanted to be safe No sooner was I coming to terms with not being able to go diving the guy returned with a new form and said don’t tick yes to things I couldn’t believe what he was saying they wanted me to lie about my health conditions therefore they would not be liable if anything happened to me I duly refused to do that because of course if I did and anything had happened to me my insurance company would not pay out and rightly so. I did not dive and I enquired about a refund and the diving representative said no they didn’t give refunds. With this excursion we were also going to swim with Dolphins I asked if they were in a pen we were told that they were free to come and go This was not true they were in a pen and were not free to go ! We were misled had we known this we would not have booked this excursion at all ! This did leave me feeling let down by Excursion representative so beware sure of exactly what you are booking.

"Good, Yes…Luxury No"

Just came back from 11 days at Ambar. Our family decided to spend Christmas and New Year there. Pros- Beach access is excellent and the beach is beautiful. They work hard to keep it clean and deal with seaweed daily. The chairs on the beach are comfortable but it is crowded. We could always find a seat but couldn’t necessarily see water. Drinks and food on the beach are good. Rooms- are good. They are clean, a good size and are cleaned daily, sometimes twice a day with turn down service. We had swim up rooms and kids loved it. It was secure and fun to have. Not sure worth the extra cost though - it was nice to be on ground floor and not have to hike luggage up and down stairs. Activities - if you want to engage in active there is LOTS to do and the animation team work so hard to keep you happy. HUGE SHOUTOUT TO LOIS for doing such a great job! Cons- Food is okay. Most restaurants serve the food lukewarm even if you go as soon as they open. It seems they cook well in advance and use lamps/warmers to keep food just above cold. Service- really hit or miss. Some staff were lovely, kind and helpful THANK YOU JUAN-CARLOS. Others appeared angry you were there and just did things that didn’t make sense. (Service at the Modernist restaurant was HORRIBLE). Colourism is still an issue on Dominican so Black and Brown folks be ready! Tips - for hot food go to La Brisa’s for breakfast and lunch. For dinner the Mongolian, teppenyaki and Rodizio didn’t disappoint. For oceanview rooms. Very few have it but 3rd floor in blocks closest to the pool is your best bet. Rooms by the pool are very loud. For best pool - if you like Euro beats and techno Ambar pool is great. If you want more variety go to Aquamarine pool (but no premium drinks there) Book all your dinners early using the app! We booked before arriving and it was good we did as by our second day there most restaurants were booked out. Would we go back - no. It’s a good hotel for 20somethings looking for a more upscale experience (My 25 and 18 yo enjoyed it a lot) . If you are older looking for a more luxurious, catered experience go to CapCana.

"Repeat visitors who were left disappointed."

This was our second visit here. We were here December 203 for Christmas and loved it! Hence why we came back Unfortunately we were quite disappointed this time Prior to travelling you can check in to the hotel via the app - this allows you to book restaurants in advance. However it means that when you actually get to the hotel - you can’t book restaurants as and when you like as everything is booked in advance. Quite annoying The gourmet restaurant Limbo was our favourite on our last trip - this time some of the food was inedible! The housekeeping left a lot to be desired too. Our room was not properly serviced on more than one occasion - and I’m not being picky - we were left without pillow cases and sheets at least twice. We called reception to have them send up some pillow cases and none arrived! Our biggest issue was the cats! They’re everywhere! Despite there being signs and warnings not to feed them - they are ignored - they sit outside the lobby and in the lobby bar walking between tables. As the buildings where the rooms are, are open - the cats wander through the buildings at night - some of our neighbours left room service outside the door and the cats had a field day! There was also cat faeces on the stairs of the building every morning If you are considering a swim up room - reconsider it as the cats use the gardens as their litter boxes!! The positives are restaurants Yurta, MEAT and Naan. The service is always great! Big shout out to Kelvin at the pool bar and the best waitress in the entire resort Bianca! The entertainment has most definitely improved in the last two years - but unfortunately despite our love of this resort two years ago - it’s unlikely we will be back.

"The 6th time"

Dec 12 – Dec 17 Wonderful Stay! It was our 6th time at Ambar and it won’t the last. Around the pool they added sun umbrellas and it did help to find a spot to lay down in the shade. The entertainment staff, especially Alex and Nairobi, was the best I’ve seen so far and the waitresses (Désirée and Marlene) are probably what make us to come back at this resort. Ramón at the towel station is another great person I enjoyed talking with. We went to the Portofino where we had the best meal of our stay not only for the food that was excellent but also for the staff thanks to Richal, the cook. I would also like to thank the following staff for their friendliness and attentiveness that we received during our stay: Flor and Bethania at the coffee shop, the butlers Juan-Carlos and Adriel and at the lobby Michellie and Miguelina.

Great resort, huge complex, perfect for nice long walks, a nice blend of surfside and pool side, nice people. The Ambar is a well balanced spot, adults only. The whole resort would benefit form a little makeover!

"Amazing vacation at Ambar. Definitely worth the money"

We stayed at the Ambar in October 2025. First time ever staying at this resort. We were totally impressed with everything. The buffet was great. A little more variety sometimes would have been nice. I don't eat seafood, so choices that night were more limited. The desserts were delicious. Breakfast we always got an omelet made fresh by Miguel. He always had a smile on his face. You can tell he loved his job. Our room was great. Big and spacious. Mini bar was stocked daily. Plenty of activities going on around the pool. This was great as we played water volleyball. Got to meet some great people from around the world. The " pool ladies" never let your drinks get empty. Bianca,Desiree and Stephania kept the drinks flowing and helped with anything you needed. Our last day there was a foam pool party which was awesome. The resort manager Orlando, and his staff were amazing. Juan Carlo was a great help also. There are many restaurants at the resort. We mostly ate at the Palmyra Buffet. We also ate at Portfino and MEAT . We give this resort 5 stars. Definitely can't wait to go back again next year
