Hotel Laugarbakki

One major highlight of our Iceland trip: Hotel Laugarbakki!!! Former sanatorium, then boarding school, now a hotel. Looks like a sailors home from the outside, but splendid, modern and welcoming bright from the inside! Rooms modern, clean, warm and with a nice bathroom. The phantastic bar (in the former gym of the school), where they mix a marvellous gin tonic and play blues the way it is supposed to be done in cozy bars. Outside three hot tubs, free of charge with nearby dressing rooms. You'll get all necessary utensiles from the hotel reception. The restaurant is even more recommendable. Nice and bright interior. Good for the eye. We started with a shrimp salad. Very delicious and a proper portion of shrimps in it. The way you want it. The Wolf fish is the best fish we had in two weeks of Iceland. And the salad that comes with it is outstanding. Phantastic dressing. And the lamb burger tastes spectacular. Good honest fries. The way you want it. The chef most obviously loves his job. You can taste it! And lastbutbot least, the crew makes you feel good in no time. Reception, chef, restaurant crew, the bar crew - they all seem to love their job. You'll feel it. This is certainly a place to go and to truly enjoy life, the kitchen and yourselves. The Hotel Laugarbakki - a gemstone in Icelandic hotellery and cuisine. I'll be back!

we heard that this building used to be a school and looks like a prison. but that's not true. the hotel is superb, very nice view through the window and the room is very cozy. the breakfast is also very good. the location is middle of no where, bu this is not an issue in this case.

Staff was really friendly, food and drinks was really good, would stay there again!

Staff were friendly and accommodating. Dining, although a bit overpriced and disorganized, provided a delicious dinner.

Wonderful hotel. Dinner has great unique dishes, great presentation and good vegan options. Staff was good and so as breakfast.

Very well maintained modern hotel with spacious rooms.

This was one of our favorite hotels in Iceland. The rooms are HUGE! Great value for your $$. Location was a nice stop on the ring road before heading to Lake Myvatn area.
