Embassy Suites Charleston - Historic District

I stayed at this location with friends for a long weekend April 9-13. Although the location is great and the staff are fairly friendly, you should be ashamed at the quality of the rooms. The carpet is old and worn, furniture is not just dated but kind of grimy. The pull out couch in the “living room” is about 2 inches thick and is like lying on a bed of pokey springs. I fear my back, hip and shoulder may never recover. Just not up to snuff for a hotel with the Hilton name in a town obsessed with appearances. appreciated the happy hour with the friendly bartenders but the “snacks” left a lot to be desired. DO BETTER.

My sister and I stayed for three nights at this hotel from Thursday through Sunday. We were joined by four relatives from out of town who also stayed on the property. I would strongly recommend not staying here. The hotel was in dire need of updating. Paint was peeling off the walls in both the room and the bathroom, the carpets needed cleaning, the sofa bed was in need of repair, and the curtain rods were broken, leaving us unable to close the curtains at night. To make matters worse, housekeeping — whom we tipped — made off with two engraved wine glasses that had been gifted to us by our relatives. The front desk was unable to locate them and did nothing to resolve the issue. For $400–$500 per night on Thursday - Saturday (before taxes), I have stayed at far superior hotels in Charleston at the same price point. A wonderful visit with family, but a truly disappointing stay.

The location.

The room was well below par. It looked like a motel off the highway, shabby and worn. I have written to Booking.com and to the hotel about the problems I encountered checking in - no one has responded. I had been told Booking.com did not transmit my reservation and had to pay twice, still waiting for refund. Also, the hotel conceals that paying for valet parking does not mean a full day, just until checkout. A total rip-off.

My husband and I stayed here for a week. Ultimately everything was pretty great. Good breakfast, and a comfortable room. All of the staff were wonderful except for one bartender. She was an older Caucasian woman (we didn’t get her name). In the evenings they put out snacks and you get 2 free drinks (which is awesome!) they had a veggie platter out so I grabbed one carrot and she proceeded to to stomp over and call me DISGUSTING. I was so caught off guard all I could say was I’m sorry and walk away as she continued to insult me. I was so upset I just wanted to leave. My husband asked her “was it necessary to say something like that” and she doubled down on her insults. After the incident she pulled out tongs for the veggies that had not been put out. In all my years of working in tourism and hospitality I have never spoken to a paying customer like that nor have I ever been spoken to like that. I said nothing back but “I’m sorry” and she still was vile. There is no reason to speak to anyone that way especially when I was not combative in any way. My boss would have fired me for less. Every other employee we came across was beyond wonderful! The young blonde bartender the next night was super sweet, front desk was extremely helpful and courteous, and all of the valets were so so kind! It’s a shame one bad apple can ruin an experience.

This place is extremely gross and disgusting. Run down, shabby, employees aren’t happy, smells weird , doesn’t seem very clean. Hilton boys these old run down properties and slaps their name on, I would steer clear, as my experience in many cities has been the same and I’m done.
