"Terrible medical treatment"

6.0

Couldn't have recommended this place enough until we needed to see a nurse, otherwise id have gave the place 5+ of. The nurse was no way trained. The hotel staff are so polite and place was amazing. Just let down by poor medical facilities and wouldnt take our insurance and when you needed help you see how they only interested in rinsing your money.

"Great Time"

8.0

I vacationed at the RIU Montego Bay Resort April 16, 2026 through April 21, 2026, for my Friend birthday. I had an amazing time with very few complaints. Let me start with the negative, the Bus transfer service that they use Nexus Tours, which hires a third party service for transfers, the bus personnel were extremely rude with no hospitality at all. After arriving to the resort, my friends were given a room without an elevator, an elevator was needed. They were informed that they would change their room the next day. The next day they were given a room by an elevator, however that particular room had a roach problem. My room was nice with no roaches at all. The front desk personal was not very friendly, but the manager Juan and Franklyn did try their best to tend to our needs because my friends were extremely frustrated. Juan got things done, thank you. Overall that resort is popping! Had such a great time. The entertainment is a 10 out of 10, Shout out to Rolly Polly, TiTi and RiRi, they did their thing. The DJ by the pool was awesome (forgot his name) but you know who you are. Nickisha the bartender was the bomb. Nickisha at the Spa gave my friend the best massage a โ€œ15โ€. Koleen the cleaner was excellent. Joaleen the server in the main dining room, who resembles Rihanna, probably have her name spelled incorrectly, her hospitality was amazing. Leaving the resort with a friendly smile Carlos, thank you. Last but not least, you guys need to give this man a raise, our tour guide, driver Jason was Aces, an awesome person. All this to say, give these people their flowers because these are the individuals that make tourist return. Overall I had a great time. Thank You Montego Bay!

"Okay experience overall."

6.0

We appreciated the ocean view, very beautiful to wake up to while there. We also liked being near stores and shops within walking distance.

I was disappointed with several aspects of my stay. The bed was extremely firm and not plush at all, and the bedding quality felt more like motel linen than what youโ€™d expect at an all-inclusive resort. For the price point, the sleep experience should be comfortable and inviting. We also experienced multiple toilet issues in our room that required maintenance visits, which was inconvenient and disruptive. A major concern was the lack of privacy. Staff, including housekeeping and maintenance, entered the room without proper notice or consent, whether we were inside or not. At one point, housekeeping entered while I was undressed after a shower, which was unacceptable and a serious safety concern. Additionally, there were no straws available at the resort aside from coconuts. I was uncomfortable drinking directly from glasses that may have been reused, especially in a high-traffic international environment. The floors in the Rose Hall restaurant were extremely slippery, I nearly fell twice. This is a serious hazard that needs immediate attention. At Pepeโ€™s Pool Grille, food being served outdoors should be better protected and held to stricter sanitary standards to maintain quality and safety. We also did not utilize the in-room minibar, as the liquor options felt outdated and not aligned with a modern all-inclusive experience. We would have appreciated a more updated and appealing selection. Overall, while we still managed to enjoy our time in Jamaica, the experience did not match the price paid. I expected a much more elevated level of comfort, safety, and attention to detail.

"Paradise!!"

10.0

On arrival we were greeted by friendly staff with a Jamaican rum punch whilst we got checked in. The check in was quick and simple with help offered for luggage. The room was clean, spacious and had plenty of storage perfect for those staying longer! It also included a minibar and optics of four branded spirits both of which could easily be restocked using their app. The air con worked very well so much so we had to turn it up as we were too cold. The app could be a little glitchy however staff were always happy to help. We did have a small problem with the safe and TV both were sorted within half an hour with no drama. The included Wi-Fi was brilliant throughout the stay, easily streaming music, movies and sustaining video calls, other than the far ends of the beach the coverage was amazing! The staff were one of the highlights of our stay always interacting with guests and very bubbly. The entertainment coordinators, specifically Suzie and Tee-Tee, went the extra mile and are the reason we are planning our next trip already. The whole atmosphere and vibe was just paradise and bliss. There is a more party vibe to the stay but also absolutely no pressure to join in with any activities etc. staff were often checking in that you were okay, stopping to have a chat even remembering everyoneโ€™s names! They really make you feel very welcome and even gave me the confidence to end up on stage as part of the entertainment. I did however find it odd that despite being an adults only resort no explicit songs were allowed on karaoke? We enjoyed the all inclusive experience, the drinks options at all the bars were good. The beach bar could have maybe been open a little later closing at 16:30 but the pool bar wasnโ€™t far and open until 18:00. The sports bar was open around the clock also offering snacks such as burgers, hotdogs, nachos and popcorn. The restaurants were overall very good and options were varied to suit many different tastes. The main buffet restaurant had themed nights but still included regular safe options. The only real letdown in terms of the food was the rib eye steak, it had no sear and just didnโ€™t really resemble a rib eye, however the mixed grill and ribs were very tasty. You can revisit the extra bookable restaurants (still included) as many times as you like. I wouldnโ€™t recommend buying anything from the in-house shop as it was jaw droppingly extortionate but it is well stocked and gets you out of a pickle. The pools were nice, the water was warm with plenty of mixed shady sunny/areas. The swim up bar was a nice novelty feature however it was quite busy at times and not really my thing. The other pools were the same sort of size and shape but just spread out which was nice as it created a lot of space to relax and chill out of the inner party circle. The beach was well kept and recently refurbished following the hurricane, however the sea bed according to staff was a little muddy following these works being completed, easily solved with beach shoes if it bothers you. It had a nice steady gradient and was very calm within the bay. The included water sports kayak, pedallo and SUP were good fun and we were surprised that they were included. We didnโ€™t do much research before arriving at the hotel and since being here and reading the reviews afterwards seeing a lot of people complaining about the people on kayaks selling gifts etc. I am really surprised. They are all really friendly and respectful, they do try and call you over but also leave you be if you politely just say no thank you and to be honest are far more reasonably priced than the gift shop. It was actually nice interacting with locals and getting to know them a bit from the safety of the resort. Whilst we were here we visited the famous doctors cave beach and the strip of shops and bars along this stretch. Everyone was very friendly and the taxi ride was only 5/10mins, reasonably priced and organised from within the hotel. Overall a fantastic experience, we look forward to coming back to play ping pong with Suzie and Tee-Tee!

"Honest Review: Good for Party Crowds, Not for Travelers Seeking Quality or Activities"

4.0

We stayed at RIU Montego Bay recently after the trip was booked by a friend. We still managed to have a fun vacation because we enjoy making the most of any trip, but I want to leave an honest review for future travelers deciding whether this resort is the right fit. For context, we have stayed at several all-inclusive brands including Iberostar Selection Rose Hall Suites, Royalton Blue Waters, Hilton properties, and others. We are not overly demanding travelersโ€”we enjoy active days, games, beach time, some relaxation, and ending the day with a decent dinner. Unfortunately, this resort did not meet those expectations. What We Liked Friendly Staff Most staff members were warm, helpful, and hardworking. Bartenders in particular were friendly and made the experience better. Rooms Our room was clean, modern, comfortable, and stayed cool throughout the night. Beds were comfortable. Waterpark The waterpark was one of the highlights of the stay and genuinely fun. Some slides are intense, so use caution. Where It Fell Short Food Quality This was by far the weakest part of the trip and the poorest food experience we have had at an all-inclusive. * Steakhouse steak was poor quality and not close to a ribeye. * Italian restaurant was acceptable, but comparable to a lower-end chain meal. * Asian restaurant was disappointing. * Buffet selections felt repetitive and random. * Fresh fruit options were very limited. * Jamaican chicken was one of the few consistently enjoyable foods. If food matters to you, this may be a major downside. Resort Atmosphere This property is heavily geared toward partying. If your goal is drinking, loud music, nightlife, and a spring-break style atmosphere, you may enjoy it. If you prefer a more balanced adults-only resort with relaxation, daytime activities, and upscale energy, this may not be the best choice. The party atmosphere was present during the day as wellโ€”not just at nightโ€”with very explicit swimwear and behavior around the pools. No judgment, but travelers should know what type of environment to expect. Activities There were activities listed, but they often felt inconsistent or loosely organized. We expected more structured daytime entertainment and ended up bringing our own volleyball to stay occupied. Pools The swim-up bar pool was noticeably dirty and warmer than expected. Other pools were better. Also surprising for an adults-only resort: * No hot tub * Pools close at 6 PM Beach The beach was average. Water is shallow and calm, which may appeal to some guests, but we prefer more swimmable water and waves. The biggest issue was constant vendors approaching guestsโ€”even while swimming in the ocean. They would paddle up in kayaks trying to sell items, which became frustrating quickly. Excursions Resort-booked excursions were expensive (mostly $100+ per person). We used a local driver for less than half the cost and had a much better experience exploring Jamaica independently. Important Note Be careful with wristbands. We witnessed multiple guests lose theirs on waterslides and were told replacements cost $250. Final Verdict We still had a fun trip because of the people we were with and because we always make the best of travel. However, we would not return to RIU Montego Bay. This resort may work well for travelers seeking a budget-friendly adults-only party resort. If you value food quality, a relaxing atmosphere, organized activities, better beach experience, or a more polished all-inclusive stay, I would recommend looking elsewhere.
