This is quite long….and meant as feed back to the hotel not as a complaint….
The reviews on this hotel are amazing but I must have missed something because to me it’s a 3* at best, ( which is to be fair the official rating) it’s in need of some refurbishment and a good clean, it’s a little grubby.
We didn’t start off well as they had overbooked our room type for the 1st night, which iv since noticed is reported quite often on other reviews, we booked a grand deluxe bungalow on the beach but offered a premium room and 2000thb for 1 night, not happy at all about this as we had booked almost a year in advance, we were told there would be a room available the next day at 12pm but we had to chase this up, there was no follow up from the hotel, we didn’t accept the 2000thb so they upt the offer to just over 3000thb.
When we eventually got settled in our room I must admit I was very disappointed, it was not as luxurious as the photos portray, it was tired, damp, grubby and unfortunately I caught sight of the mattress before they’d made up the room, it was brown with stains, admittedly they do put mattress protectors but it bothered me the entire holiday, ….once seen can’t be unseen !
There was a large patch if damp near the wardrobe, this made the wardrobe smell a little fausty, I assumed this was a result of the shower being behind that wall which had strange blocked tiles that didn’t look watertight. The room was plagued with mosquitoes, not the hotels fault, the open air bathroom meant that after it rained there was an open invitation for the mosquitoes to pile in, so every visit was followed by another set of new bites, to be fair we reported this to the ladies who cleaned the room and they arranged for some plug ins.
If you do book this room type request NOT to have room 8918, it’s next to the pool, bar and entertainment and although handy for the beach, in the evenings the windows vibrate with the noise. I think the air con needs servicing, it’s blows down directly onto the bed and we have both come home with chest infections….With all these problems we could have asked to move rooms but after the fuss of the 1st day we didn’t like how that left us feeling, no one likes to start their holiday with an argument with the manager…we didn’t want to be seen as ‘oh them they are complainers’ ……..we’ve been to Thailand 5 times and never had the need to complain.
One of the waiters said the manager had asked ‘ why is the restaurant not busy’, well I can answers that, the food is awful !! and overpriced, you can get much better standard in any of the the restaurants outside for half the price, you always pay more in a hotel and we don’t mind paying extra if the food is good but it’s really not !!! shame because the staff are lovely and work very hard.
Iv worked in travel for 32 years and in all my travels Iv never stayed in a hotel that has such strange rules about beach towels, you are asked to return your towel to your room at 16.00 so it can be replaced, if you don’t you don’t get a clean one!!! So you have to leave the beach before 16.00 or sit on your lounger with no towel. What I soon learnt, after doing as requested on the 1st day, was no one comes to replace your towel at 16.00, how can they possibly do this for every room, they turn up at all different times so it’s pot luck if you get a clean one, I did call to request clean ones a few times, surely there’s an easier way around this, our room was on the beach so we could keep a look out for the towel lady, but some were a long way off so this system would really be annoying.
The good…..the beach is beautiful!!! When the sea is calm it’s truly amazing, no rocks just lovely soft sand under your feet.
The grounds are full of lush tropical plants ( except the plastic orchids !! Really!!! in Thailand) ….the guys who drive the buggies are fab, as are the security guards who help you cross the busy road, the guys who get your beach umbrella everyday they work so hard,
Sorry this is probably the worst review Iv ever written but this one is just not me, won’t be returning.
