"Friendly and comfortable hotel close to the town"

8.0

We were diverted to another hotel in the chain because of over-booking (an experience which many others shared). When we were transferred back in our second week, we were very pleased with the hotel itself and its location. Funchal is very spread out and steep, however, it was easily possible to get from the hotel to the town without having to resort to taxis (not a pleasant experience sometimes). People obviously enjoyed being at the hotel. There was a good friendly atmosphere and, for example, the pool was well used without seeming overcrowded. Staff were pleasant and very helpful.

"Why do they get away with continual overbooking?"

4.0

We were moved from our hotel of choice- the Bela Sao Tiago - to its' sister hotel on arrival. We were told that the hotel was overbooked and the reception staff could do nothing about it. A taxi took us to the Hotel Das Vistas which is some 2-3 kms away and up a steep hill out of the town centre. We were in Madeira for 10 nights and we discovered that approx. 10 couples had had the same experience - in that same timescale. What is also curious is that we had paid a supplement for a sea view - £200- as had several other holidaymakers and yet we were unable to have a room with a sea view as the hotel only has "panoramic" views - perhaps because its far away from the coastline? We were told that the Hotel Das Vistas does not get many bookings because of its' location so Charming Hotels overbooks the Sao Tiago and puts the overspill in Das Vistas. This unacceptable situation has been going on for quite a while so isn't it about time it stopped? How many other travellers will be out of pocket because of alleged computer glitches or complete staff inefficiency- if it were 1 or 2 instances it would be forgiveable but a continual occurrence is questionable.. Hotel Sao Tiago is located in the Old Town which is ideal so to be moved was frustrating, time consuming and costly.

" Lovely hotel set near old town "

10.0

Extended our holiday by staying for 3 nights here. The location and setting were excellent. Take time to explore the orchard, it was wonderful. The breakfasts catered for every possible taste and the only meal we ate in was excellent.

"Nice hotel close to the old town of Funchal"

8.0

The Location of the Hotel is great ! We had a phantastic view overlooking the pool and the garden of the Hotel and the port with the cruise ships. Found some nice Restaurants in 10 min Walking distance. Did not like the Restaurant of the Hotel because the asked for "forma Dress code".

Good sea view room overlooking hotel pool and bay of Funchal. Hotel within 10 minute walk from centre of Funchal and its attractions eg cable car, bus station, plenty of restaurants and town centre shopping.

"Great location special view"

8.0

Spent two nights here at the end of our holiday, the view from our room was fantastic, with the hotel gardens looking lovely and church beautifully lit up. The service was exceptional form the resturant and bar staff. The rooms were comfortable and clean. We only have two criticisms the shower head could be updated and the room remote control for the lights was set up wrong so you ended up turning on all the lights in the middle of the night. Would recomend this hotel for the service, views and its close location to the old town.

"Fantastic charming old style hotel"

10.0

The Quinta Bela Sao Tiago is breathtakingly beautiful. It's an old building which has been very well cared for. The location is outstanding and is in the old part of Funchal. I had a sea view room. The view gorgeous; I could see all at once the sea, the garden, the pool and the outdoor patio where many guests take their meals. The food is very good at the hotel. I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights. I found the staff incredibly welcoming, kind, helpful, professional and attentive. Anything I asked or they helped me get it. There are an abundant array of restaurant choices within walking distance as well as a small convenience store (about 3 blocks away). The breakfast is quite good. The one caution is that you do need to be fairly fit if you'll be walking to @ from the hotel as it sits atop a hill. I love this hotel and am very happy I chose to stay here!
