Quinta Bela Sao Tiago

Lovely hotel - would definately return and recommend to friends.

I booked the Quinta Bela Sao Tiago as I wanted to stay near the City centre, what a lovely hotel. I had not paid extra for a sea view so had a rear racing room with a long balcony, the room was huge, larger than the sea facing rooms. Breakfast was taken on the terrace, as weather good. Pool area very pleasant & pool not freezing. Hotel only 10 mins walk downhill to centre, cable car being the nearest attraction. I would recommend this hotel if you want to stay in the old part of Funchal in a hotel with character. Staff all very friendly & helpful

The staff are very attentive and happy to help. There is a keyboard player on Monday nights which is very pub singer but apart from that it was a lovely quiet stay. There is a really groovy bar at the bottom of the hill on the promenade which is good for drinks. The hotel is well situated in the old town which is away from the main hotel area which makes it feel more local. We had bed and breakfast and the breakfast was excellent, we didnt try the main restaurant as the choice in the old town was so varied we always went out. The old town can be expensive so it is worth looking at the menus.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The position of the hotel was very good, the staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was spacious with fantastic views and the breakfast was superb with lots of fresh fruit. my only complaint was of the complex electrical system in the room which we never really worked out.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble, the only downside was the position of the Hotel there is quite a climb back from the town and if the weather is as hot as it was for our stay can be quite a problem.

A very attractive, superbly located hotel. All staff are very helpful and friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Breakfasts are superb and the welcome by the hotel manager and the quiet assistance of all the staff in the mornings made our stays even more excellent. The views, the pool, the rooms, the gardens are just lovely. We will certainly be returning.

The hotel is well situated as long as you are able to cope with a stiff climb from the town. Breakfast on the terrace with a view of the sea and port was delightful. There are plenty of good value restaurants within 10/15 minutes walk. There are lovely gardens (with a banana plantation) and a good pool. The staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English. The room was rather dark and somewhat sparsely equipped (just a TV set), but acceptable and the air con was efficient. The safe cost €1.50 a day, however the car park was free. Free internet was available in the lobby (Only one computer though). We don't think this hotel would not be very good for families with small children, but we would go back.

Great Hotel located a short walk away from the bars and restaurants but not so close as to be noisy. The walk into town is down hill, so obviously uphill on the way back, therefore I don't think it is suitable if you have small children, unless you hire a car. The hotel was really clean and comfortable, the pool was a little smaller than expected but there was never an issue getting a sun bed. The welcome drink was a nice touch,and all the staff were very friendly. Would definitely recommend for couples.

We had an really enjoyable stay at the Quinta Bela Sao Tiago in July 2012. The service was very good from the check in to the breakfast - nothing was too much trouble for the excellent staff. The breakfast was very good, with plentiful fresh fruit, pastries and fried breakfast if you want it - taken on the patio area overlooking the pool. The pool is kept very clean & tidy and the hotel grounds are well kept - includes bananas, grape vines and palm trees. The location of the hotel is also very good - close the the old part of Funchal and the numerous restaurants located there. In summary 10 out of 10.
