"Pleasant afternoon tea in a lovely old building."

10.0

We booked afternoon tea with a gift voucher. This was our first visit to the hotel so weren't sure what to expect as some of the reviews had not been very positive. We parked on site and were extremely impressed with the beautiful reception area in this historic building. We were greeted politely by a smiling gentleman and took the lift up to the dining room. This was a very large room with lovely old wood panelled walls, tall windows and spotlessly clean. We were once again greeted with a smile and attended to immediately. Large pots of tea and coffee were served within minutes, followed swiftly by a three tier platter with a choice of sandwiches, scones with the inevitable jam and cream and a nice selection of cakes. All fresh, tasty and quite filling. All the staff we encountered were pleasant, polite and helpful and we would happily visit again.

"Afternoon tea "

10.0

Booked for afternoon tea as a family gift. The hotel is literally in the centre of Derby, only 100 yards from Derby Cathedral. A beautiful cathedral and well worth a visit. The hotel is a historic building re-purposed and recently re-modeled with a glorious marble interior and oak panelled dining room. There is plenty of parking in the vicinity, although it is almost all pay and display. There is very limited parking belonging to the hotel. At the time of our visit, on a Sunday, they were serving a lunch carvery as well as our afternoon tea in a sparsley occupied restaurant; to be fair though, this was a cold and damp February afternoon. Service was pleasant and attentive. The sandwiches seemed freshly prepared and tasty, along with scones, jam and clotted cream, sponge cakes and a biscuit selection. Accompanied, of course by tea or coffee and although we never asked for any, I suspect any variation of beverage could be available. I could recommend the hotel from my observations and the pricing of the meals we saw and enjoyed seemed very reasonable.

"First time visit with Groupon Voucher"

10.0

Wow what a lovely building firstly. Had an afternoon tea today Valentine’s Day just me and my wife. The waiting on staff absolutely impeccable service. sandwiches nice and fresh. Scones nice and fresh only 1 x Roddas clotted cream to share my only issue 😱 A lovely thought of the hotel given a single red rose by the waiting on staff made it that extra bit special. Would I go again most definitely thank you for making the day special to all concerned

"Friendly staff"

8.0

Went today for an afternoon tea, and we were warmly welcomed by staff in reception and the gent in Bogarts Room who served us. We were early but the staff were very accommodating, and we were quickly seated and served our hot drinks, the afternoon tea was very nice, well presented, with a choice of tuna sweetcorn & cheese & onion finger sandwiches, The sweet treats were fruit scone, brownie & mini sponge. I would recommend visiting this beautiful old building, and we shall certainly return.

"Unacceptable web service from hotels horrid hotel!"

2.0

Do not book this hotel through hotels.com. It is dirty and run down and I really did not want to sleep in my room. When I complained I was told that as booked and pre paid through hotels website they could not offer any refund and contacting hotels.co.uk or .com is impossible and hence any reparation similarly so. I will never book this hotel again and I will never book through hotels again. Disgusting service from the website and horrid dirty hotel.

"Excellent customer service in a grand Victorian gem"

10.0

Excellent customer service, the staff are very attentive. The food is great too. This hotel is a Victorian gem 💎 Give it a try. It has lots of character. Great price, too. Some improvements are being done, but doesn't get in the way. ❤️👊👍👍

"Ok but definitely not boutique..staff lovely"

6.0

Beautiful building, great location and able to ark for free outside .. helpful and friendly staff, easy check in and out. Room not particularly clean, cracked bathroom tiles.. dirty carpet, dirty inside wardrobe, shabby in parts, room air con only blowing cold but there was an effective oil filled radiator. Plus points.. bed very comfy, quiet, plenty of tea/coffee options, nice coffee maker, nice towels. Not boutique by any means but fortunately we didn’t pay full price.. a shame because it has so much potential but just lacking ‘nice touches’ and is quite shabby on parts.
