"Stopover - Santander to Almeria"

4.0

Hotel is a few miles from the motorway within a gated community - I guess the recession has taken it's toll. The staff we welcoming but the hotel was tired - we suposedly had booked the last family room - however the hotel was virtualy empty. The AC in the bedroom didn't work - the girls bunks were far more comfortable than the double bed. The decor was dated, the balcony had a good view but no chairs - the breakfast buffet was very tired at 9.00am - the cold meets looked past their best. Wew did not have dinner in the hotel but in the adjacent pizza/steak restaurant - this was very good and good value. Have stayed in other Tryp Hotels and found them to be much better than this one. The one positive was free Wi-Fi I think it was the Hotels but not sure but it connected without a pass word!

"Very impressive place- best breakfast"

10.0

We loved this place. We found it to have lots of character. The location is handy but not really close to any attractions. We had a car so it worked out perfectly for us on our way to Segovia. Free parking on the street. The breakfast buffet was the best we found in 2 weeks of traveling Spain. The wood floors in the corridors made for a bit of traffic noise. We would prefer to stay here rather than in Segovia, assuming you have a car.

"the pool is closed on mondays!"

2.0

A soulless place. We booked for 2 nights but gave up after one night. The hotel struggles to get bookings and is thus a little run down. Its on a motorway junction miles from anything. We had a pizza in the pub next door which must be the worst food we have had in years. The airco couldn't cool the room, it was dirty (look at the air vents), and the room was dark. We only choose it because it is so cheap and has a pool. So when we were told it was closed on mondays, we ran away.

"Good quality for the price"

10.0

My wife and I stayed at the Comendador for two nights at the end of August 2006. I found it on the Internet and booked directly from the hotel site. It was excellent. If you have a car and want to visit Segovia, La Granja, or El Escorial the location is excellent, since it is about thirty kilometers from all three places. It is possible to arrive by train getting off at the Los Angeles de San Rafael stop. The entrance to the urbanizacion where the hotel is located is just a few meters away from the train stop--not a full station. The hotel itself is located inside the housing development called Los Angeles de San Rafael, where there are restaurants, a small supermarket, a bank, and a post office. The main road SE 603 connecting Segovia to San Rafael is a few meters from the hotel. There is no noise as all rooms are soundproof. The hotel is a three star but could easily be a four star. There is an indoor pool, a jacuzzi, and a fitness room. There is also a rather expensive restaurant in the hotel, which we did not try. Breakfast was buffet and was huge. There was even smoked ham. For five euros a head it would be difficult to get such a sophisicated breakfast. The room we had on the third floor was excellent with a lot of space and closets. There were two double beds and they easily could have fit four people. The bathroom was very modern and spacious. There is ample free parking outside the hotel. It took us fifteen minutes to drive to Segovia on a fast well-marked road. There is also the alternative toll road, which runs almost parallel to the national road, but we didn't find it necessary. Just outside the hotel was an Italian restaurant and an Argentinian restaurant specializing in grilled meats. We only had time to try the Italian restaurant, Il Portachuelo, and it was nothing special. To avoid the expensive hotel restaurant we drove into San Rafael, nine kilometers to the south, and had a very good meal. The housing development itself is worth a drive around or a walk. Most of the houses are empty as they are used on weekends by people from Madrid. There are incredible views from the highest points of the surrounding countryside. It must be a great place for waling or cycling. Ray Vogensen (Chaves, Portugal)
