"Old hotel in name and content"

7.0

Location in the town centre, managed to park Infront of the building but on busy days it's pot luck as it is a public parking area. The buffet breakfast was really good with quality cooked ingredients.

The room and bathroom were extremely tired, with aged furniture and needing fresh paint and carpets.

Full of character and old charm. The bed was very comfortable and the room was very nice and clean.

The stairs and landings needed a bit of a clean.

So, Booking.com didn’t pass on my booking to the hotel, apparently a common problem of late!!!! Luckily, the hotel had a sister hotel next door which after a panic was able to accommodate me for the mistakes of Booking.com computer system 😢

Not having a reservation thanks to Booking.com

"Great place with some very old quirks to the building and great location"

7.0

Location was great easy to find

Breakfast was poor The staff didn’t re stock bread yogurt sauces butter bakery items , the chef wandered off with the sausage and bacon for 8 minutes and only when. He saw me waiting did he realised that he had left them somewhere There were no plates for hot food and the staff seemed very unaware of service They need more training and a supervisor

"Poor"

The location of the hotel was great, right in the centre of Buxton and opposite a big park. The outside of the hotel is lovely.

The whole hotel could do with a really huge makeover. Everywhere was shabby, the carpets were paricularly horrid. The dining area was acceptable, although very outdated. We were on the top floor where there is a huge hole in the ceiling going up the stairs. Our bedroom had obviously had a leak from the roof as the wall was stained over the window. The lino on the bathroom floor not fitted properly. The toilet in the en suite was not clean, plus a dirty cleaning cloth had been left on the bath. Biscuit crumbs over the dressing table. Had to ask for reception for handsoap and milk!! Parking was extra, which should be included in the price. Evening meal was ok, even though one main course was forgotten and had to be asked for. It was then brought out 15mins after the other main meals. The staff were very apologetic and we were not charged for the one meal that had been brought out late. The restaurant wasn't busy!! Breakfast wasn't good, overcooked dry bacon and sausages, not very good quality. some of the food cold even though it was under a heat lamp. Cups old and stained. The staff did their best and it could be an amazing hotel if some money was invested in it. The Elemis toileteries are a nice touch, but more attention needs to be paid to the basic things.
