Hampton Inn & Suites Providence Downtown

Practical hotel in the central business district within walking distance of all attractions. Large comfortable room with all facilities and large bathroom. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast including hot fare was more than adequate.

The bedroom was a little lacking in charm. For Europeans, it may be unfamiliar that at breakfast the plates and cups were made of throwaway paper and plastic including the knives and forks although apparently recyclable which were then thrown away. It didn’t bother us however.

Checking into this hotel was easy but also a bit frustrating. I wanted to do a late check out but the person checking me in made it a bit difficult. Thankfully, I spoke to someone else the next day and it was settled. However, housekeeping did show up an hour early but they did not give us an attitude about being in the room still. The lobby is big, with a lot of seating, especially if you come down for breakfast in the mornings. The provide coffee and tea all day and are very accommodating if you want some water. We were staying in a tower with the elevator in the back of the hotel. I liked this area because there were not a lot of rooms and it was pretty quiet in the hallways. However, the noise outside is kind of loud, with car seemingly street racing in the middle of the night. Our room was nice and spacious, clean and tidy. It did smell a bit of chemicals but I expect that in hotels of this level, most of them smell this way. The best part of this hotel is the shuttle. They will take you anywhere within 2 miles of the hotel, which makes going to uphill places very convenient. I would stay at this hotel again just for the shuttle. That's not saying the location is bad though. It's extremely walkable for most of the areas you'd want to visit in Providence.

Desk and check in staff were amazing. Having to pay for mandatory valet parking for $38 is excessive. Especially when we had to park our own car cause the valet staff couldn’t drive a Manuel transmission sports car. For $38 they held our keys for us over night. And in the morning when we checked out. We were handed our keys with no assistance with our bags.

Bob, airport shuttle driver was very pleasant. The lobby was impressive with the bronze doors. It is very well positioned and it was super easy to walk to many places.

This hotel was located central to all spots of tourist interest. The room was fine and the breakfast was basic fare. The front desk staff was very friendly, especially Asia. The hotel provided a shuttle service within 2 miles, which was great and one shuttle driver took us on a mini tour on the way to the best bakery in city.

Room service is every other day, which we did not expect. I had to ask to have my garbage dumped and fresh towels during my stay. We were on the 10th floor and after 11 pm they block off upper floors in a section of the hotel because of "grifters" or homeless people downtown that were using the hotel. That was a complete turn-off.
