"Best small hotel by far."

10.0

Only had three days to spare in Myanmar and certainly made an excellent choice in hotel. Not too big and not too small. The staff were excellent they went out off their way to make our stay most enjoyable.

"Feels more like a resort!"

10.0

The place seems rather unassuming from the outside, located in a typical suburb of Mandalay. Once you get inside though, it feels like you're in the days of the British Empire, in a resort for adventurers in the middle of the jungle. Attentive and friendly staff, a relaxing poolside, and grounds that feel more like you're in a small Burmese village, rather than in the middle of the dusty sprawl of the city. The breakfast is quite good with a nice variety of dishes, and the dinner service is absolutely fantastic and probably the best food I had during my travels around Myanmar. Their course options let you choose from Indian, Burmese, and Western food and are very reasonably priced, have plenty of variety, and are of large portions. The area around the hotel is rather uninteresting, it's close to the castle but otherwise it's just typical suburban fare and nothing is really within walking distance, especially in the typical Myanmar weather (I would imagine this would be the case anywhere, as Mandalay is rather spread out). Regardless, taxis will get you wherever you need to go, and the hotel will help arrange you to go anywhere you want. Overall I can't imagine there being a better place to spend your time in Mandalay, it's a very relaxing environment with top class service and a Burmese environment that you won't find in a normal hotel.

"Close but no cigar."

6.0

It feels a little harsh to not be writing a great review, as compared to the Neon monstrosities which seem to be the only other options in Mandalay, it really wasn't all that bad. The Good - the rooms are clean and a decent size, it's a hop skip and a jump from most of the tourist attractions (palace, hill, pagoda etc), or if you just continue up the same street you can get away from the tourists and see a little of the real Mandalay. Some of the staff try to be very helpful, and there is a warm welcome. The Bad - it's right next to another restaurant which seemed to have horrendous Karaoke nights so loud that you may as well give in and join them, the breakfast is pretty weak, the restaurant is decent but weirdly it's and Indian rather than local cuisine, and they completely overcharge for wine (e.g. the Rose D'Inle was about USD10 at the shops in town, USD 22 at other hotels, and USD 40 here). Some of the staff aren't anywhere near as helpful as others, and will try to rip you off for taxis, or take advantage of the dual currency system (3 taxis to and from the airport cost USD 10-12, for the last they tried to charge USD 20, but quickly backed down). The outdoor showers seem like a nice idea until you realise they are absolutely riddled with mosquitoes! Shame! All told, I don't know that you could find a much better place in Mandalay, but with a little bit of effort they could really make this somewhere a lot more special.

Small hotel. Very friendly. Clean rooms. Free wifi. Central location. Small pool is probably 10 meters long. Bikes available. Close to entrance of king's palace. 10 minute bike ride to Mandalay hill. Quality of service is high.
