Schoone Oordt Country House

What an amazing space Alison and Richard have created at Schoone Oordt. The main house has been beautifully renovated and the separate room we stayed in was gorgeous. Dinner was the most amazing meal and the service was exceptional. One of our party is coeliac and they made a point of acknowledging this each time we ate, which gave us great confidence, and they were happy amend the dishes as necessary although this in no way affected the amazing quality and taste of the food. Alison and Richard took the time to chat with us and it was lovely to hear their story about how they have created both a family home and amazing guest house. Swellendam is a lovely little town to visit and we could not recommend more highly a stay and dinner at Schoone Oordt.

Just the one night here unfortunately on the way down to the Garden route but so much more than just a stopover and we wish we had been able to stay longer. We were made to feel so welcome by all the staff from the minute we arrived . We had been suffering with a stomach bug since leaving Cape Town so reluctantly declined what looked to be some fantastic dinner options. However we were offered a simple salmon trout dish with rice and vegetables that was perfect for our “delicate” condition. Likewise , whilst we had to temper our breakfasts options, it is not to be missed - you will not need lunch but you can of course return for the complimentary afternoon warm scones! The house and grounds are beautiful and our room was lovely. Our car was even washed before we left in the morning! Highly recommended

It was a brief but very enjoyable stay. We had dinner in the conservatory every course was wonderful. We were taken aback by the 3 course breakfast which was lovely and light. Throughout our stay all the staff were very attentive and looked after us wonderfully.

Loved its luxury, charm, service, incredible dinner, and breakfast, the no tipping policy, (all staff get equal share of 12.5% service charge), there is a feeling of inclusion. The only reservation is it is a challenge for those with mobility issues to navigate, but 100% recommend on all other fronts.
