Schoone Oordt Country House

We loved everything about this small boutique hotel. The restoration and decor was stunning . Food absolutely amazing atmosphere in the restaurant beautiful Alison and Richard can’t thank you enough for a wonderful stay .you are a lovely couple .

We stayed overnight on our way to the eastern cape. I can’t praise it highly enough . From the gorgeous scones waiting for us on arrival to the staff member washing our car! Food was amazing. If you are in the area, stay there !

Having visited for dinner in 2025, we decided to stay 2 nights at Schoone Ordt. Swellendam is a lovely little town and a grest place to break up the journey from Cape Town to the places in the east of the Garden Route. Especially of note is the food. It is quite simply fabulous. A short menu (choice of 4 dishes for each course) always instills confidence that the chef is extremely capable. And so it proved. Everything we ate was fantastic. Also the wines are all locally sourced and they were spectacular too. All the staff were wonderful - led by the charming Alison. We will definitely go back when in Swellendam.

The main house, especially the lounge area, is really beautiful with lots of character. Our room was comfortable and spacious.

Dinner at Schoone was totally amazing. Incredibly tasty starters, and “off the Richter scale mains”. All were fantastic and delicious to the last morsel, and beautifully and artistically presented. Well worth a foodie’s visit.

This is a must, the most amazing welcome, food and surroundings. Alison and Richard have put there heart and soul into making this the most wonderful restful, but energising stay, Nothing was too much trouble, accommodating needs above and beyond, it really feels like your staying at your best friend’s home, This by far was our special place during our garden route trip. Excellent all round. Good food, great atmosphere and super staff.

From the moment we arrived to the moment we left, Joany and the rest of the staff were so attentive and welcoming . The hotel was so clean and the rooms very comfy would of loved to of stayed longer but we had a long journey ahead . Would highly recommend if you want a colonial stay in a fabulous warm homely place . Everything home made from the biscuts to the lovley scones . Yum yum . Mr and Mrs Les and Michelle West .

Beautiful country house that felt like stepping back to period in time. Set in its own grounds, with outdoor pool and gardens. The bedrooms and the dining room were superb.

Nothing not to to like

Friendly owners and staff who could not have done more for us. Food was exceptional.
