Schoone Oordt Country House

We spent a wonderful one night stay on the way to Franschoek ( most itineraries suggested this) and we couldn’t have felt more at home. Thank you to Alison and her team ; the whole stay was a food fest that I will never forget! Each dish is lovingly prepared, presented and is delicious! This also reflects each element of this boutique hotel: wine, food, ambience, swimming pool- sun loungers, gardens, toiletries etc were all great. Treat yourself and stay here! You won’t regret it!

We arrived at this beautifully restored Georgian house after a two hour drive from Franschhoek and were greeted by Joanie’s lovely smile and shown to our room without any official form filling to settle in and asked to join them on the veranda for drinks . We unpacked and headed over to do the official stuff, taking in the view of the beautiful fountains and the Koi swimming in the pond on the grounds . The house is breathtaking and you feel swept back in time while you sit and admire the restoration . Alison came to say hello and made us feel so welcome ! Confirming our dinner reservations and checking we were happy with the menu ( perfection!) Dinner at 730 was excellent , faultless except too much food ! Sat in the conservatory by an open window taking in the view of the grounds . We stayed in the family cottage with a traditional en-suite bathroom , fluffy towels and robes plus high quality toiletries . Bed and bedding superb !! We slept like logs and breakfast the following morning was a gourmet affair , we were moving on sadly but enjoyed every minute of our short stay and would highly recommend this gem of a place with its incredible style , excellent friendly service and exceptional food !!

This delightful, well run hotel in a lovely part of Swellendam was a joy to visit. We were immediately made to feel very welcome by Joannie who offered us tea and scones before being taken to our room which was perfect. It was spotlessly clean with beautiful bedlinen and everything we needed and we had a wonderful nights sleep. We were served a delicious dinner in the evening and the breakfast was equally excellent and plenty of it! Nothing was too much trouble for anyone and Alison, the owner, couldn’t have been more helpful when we needed to find a doctor. The hotel itself is a beautiful building set in a lovely garden with a swimming pool and plenty of places to sit. One of the nicest hotels in our three week trip. Finally, thanks go to Charles, who not only carried our cases to the room but also cleaned our very dusty car on the morning we left. We look forward to a return visit.

A beautiful small hotel . Delicious food. Lovely rooms with great attention to detail . Charming hosts . Perfect location to break up the drive from Cape Town to Plettenbug.

This is a bit picky but hey its feedback Had a cheeseboard for 2 but it was a little thin on the ground....looked like it was for one

Excellent food but the room is not-as good. A little bit old, dark, bathroom requires update .

The rooms ! And the welcome service.

We spent our last night in South Africa here; we were booked in by our travel agent, and were delighted with this selection. We found it excellent and exceptionally good value - the room, the staff, the food and wine and the overall ambience. Our hostess was very welcoming and charming, too. We would so much have liked to spend another night there. However, it meant that we left South Africa on a high.

We spent 4 nights at Schoone Oordt and it was special. The rooms are beautifully and stylishly decorated, and every detail has been thought about. The breakfasts and dinners in the conservatory are superb and all the staff are friendly and knowledgable. It was very hot when we stayed there, and it's wonderful to be able to take a swim in the pool after a hot day out. Alison was very helpful with reccomendations for things to do closer to and also slightly further from Swellendam. A day trip to De Hoop Nature Reserve is really nice to do if you're staying a couple of days. Definitely reccomend staying here if you want to spoil yourself!
