"Disgusting shower with big black moles and dirty grout"

4.0

We just returned from the Grand Waikikian. We stayed there for 4 nights from 1/4 to 1/8. The check in process was slow but the attendants were nice. We got a one-bedroom apartment. The size of the room was fine. The layout was ok too. Although it was weird to have the bath tub right next to the beds in the bedroom, that was something I could accept. The shower was completely disgusting. It had black moles in every corner of the shower. The grout in the tiles were brown. I found 3 pieces of hair in the shower upon entering. I am not sure if the shower was cleaned at all after the last guests left. This unit, 2808 should not be rented out. The condition of the shower was simply unacceptable from a sanitary and a health standpoint. It doesn’t even meet the basic requirements of healthy and cleanliness. I called the hotel that night to notify them of the situation. They said they would send housekeeping to clean tomorrow. No one showed up the next day so I called again and asked to speak to the guest services manager. Two ladies showed up and tried their best to clean which I really appreciated. The dirty grout improved and the unknown hair was gone. However, the moles were still there. The entire shower had to be re-grouted. It’s simply too dirty and gross. The property didn’t keep up with maintenance. I expressed this to the front desk and they didn’t do anything. It was our last night so I didn’t bother to change hotel until the next day. I also found a heavy layer of dust on the headboard above the bedside table lamp. At first, I thought they were little pieces of hair sticking out. But then I run my fingers through it and a layer of dirt and dust filled my fingers. This was next to the beds. Overall, the unit was very disappointing and dirty.

"A glorious stay at the Grand Waikikian"

10.0

This was a wonderful stay. Grace Benson of the Grand Waikikian was so knowledgeable and helpful, a fine professional. It is personnel such as Grace who make the HGVC Grand Waikikian truly special. The housekeeping staff are excellent and the rooms are sparkling clean and so well-equipped. Views are inspiring and there are several pools plus a glorious beach from which to choose. There is even a well-stocked convenience store on the lobby level. Sunrise and sunset are magnificent!

"Mediocre"

4.0

1) The strike was over approx. 11/11. They announced that all services were back to normal immediately. We stayed 11/23--11/30. They said maid service was available at a "nominal fee." Not true. There was no maid service whatsoever. We had to haul our trash to a central location on the floor, make our own beds, etc. When we arrived, the Greeter said, "Welcome home." Who was to know that's what she meant. 2) We had reserved a 2 bedroom premier, full ocean view. It would have been a full ocean view had it not been for the gigantic skyscraper sister hotel immediately within the line of sight, which obscured fully half the view. The architect should have been shot, along with his seeing eye dog. 3) The mattress felt like it had first been used by King Kong the night he ravished Fay Wray, and had been in continuous use ever since. I asked for a board to be placed underneath the mattress, but was informed that box springs had been abolished and the mattress already rested on a wooden box, so a board would be of no value. I removed the paper thin mattress topper, but that made little difference. At home at the end of a hard day, I occasionally go to bed with low back pain. The was the first time I ever awoke with back pain. 4) The brochures show pictures of modern luxurious swimming pools and decks. They don't say that these are the swimming pools of the Grand Waikikian's sister hotels in the "Hilton Hawaiian Village Complex." These pools are available for use for Grand Waikikian guests, but they are a bit of a hike. The Grand Waikikian's pool is reminiscent of "the old swimming hole" we used to read about in coming of age stories. 5) The website says self-park is $72 a night and valet park is $82 a night. I always thought valet park meant you drop off your car at the front door of the hotel and an attendant returns it to the same spot at your request. Silly me. No one knew where self-park was. After driving around in circles (typical response: Oh! they sent you here), we gave up, parked in self park, and hiked back to the hotel.

"Excellent"

Hotel rooms and resort property are beautiful. Quick access to beach, pools, and shopping. Dining options are limited with long lines and wait times. Small grocery store is very expensive and overpriced. Staff are friendly, however, be careful as they try to get to you to your timeshares for alleged discounted rates on activities, ie., Luau and boat excursions. I am still waiting on my refund for the luau.

"Everything Youd Wish For Grand Islander Waikiki"

10.0

This resort was beautiful- the suites super nice, comfortable, well equipped with all of the amenities you need to eat, enjoy a glass of wine and appetizers from the balcony, or change and head out to the many Waikiki attractions in very easy walking distance. Located within the Hilton Islander resort, with multiple properties, shops, pools, bars & easy access to the ocean, you have everything you could need. This included grocery stores, restaurants, bars, music, clothing, stores, sunscreen, beach, towels, beach rentals – you name it, it was close by. It also was proximately located to many public transit hubs, so it was very easy to catch either the Hawaii trolley – a magical experience, taking you all over the island on a hop on hop off basis, or Da Bus (as they call it) for long trips around the island at a very affordable rate. The concierge desk was extremely helpful and always had great suggestions for things to do, and there were many. The only complaint we had is that the Hilton staff was overly aggressive than trying to book timeshare presentation. As owners, with no interest in expanding our property holdings, we had to politely refuse seven different approaches, I can understand one or two, but at that point there needs to be a way to make a note in the system to cut off additional requests. With that said, this definitely ranked among our most favorite resorts to visit. Oh did I mention it also had a washer dryer in the unit, and although we didn’t have ocean views, our mountain views were stunning with rainbows and clouds and the twinkling lights of nightime Waikiki.

"Just a bad vacation all around"

2.0

If you are thinking of purchasing a timeshare with HGV DO NOT DO IT! As a guest you get no respect and then they expect you to purchase a timeshare. Strikers are out from 7:00am to 10:00 pm daily yelling and chatting with bull horns and can be heard from every location in all towers. We are currently on a 3 week vacation at the Grand Waikikian and when asked for a little bit of cleaning was told “there is a broom in the closet”. They do not supply any cleaning or supplies if you are willing to clean yourself either. Pools are not being maintained there is as much sand at the bottom of them as there is on the beach. Have to take your own garbage out that is being left in the hallways along with dirty towels. Front desk is open at noon so accounts for long line ups and waits. These folks are rude and not knowledgeable. They are not willing to help with any requests. You get a different lie from each front desk team member you speak with. Bars are purposely making bad drinks but still charging $18. There are homeless at the lagoon as you try to enjoy your vacation. When asked for compensation get told you should have cancelled. This is not an option when you book 9 months in advance and take vacation from work based on the trip.Hiltons motto “Make it Right” is non existent for owners it is more like owners motto is now “owners need to fight”. Hilton has left a lasting impression on myself and the party I am travelling with and it is a bad taste. One couple I was travelling with was thinking of buying but have changed their minds after only 3 days of being here. Hilton expects you to attend a sales presentation as soon as you get in the room to upgrade really you have to be kidding. The strikers chat “Hilton Hilton you are no good” is very true.

"Rethink staying here."

2.0

The impact of the strike is unacceptable and a contract needs to be achieved with the striking staff. No midweek housekeeping, you have to find a cart on another floor to replenish unit supplies, limited service with check-in and check-out and my requests/demands regarding reimbursement were ignored. The noise of the strikers on the street were heard in my unit with the doors closed. I couldn’t enjoy my balcony due to the loud protests on the street and I was on the 20th floor. Stay away until the contract is settled.

"So bad we left early."

2.0

Very disappointed with Grand Waikikian. They're on strike, so services were heavily disrupted, and no real efforts were made to resolve the issues. Overall, an unsatisfactory experience. We're on so unsatisfied by this hotel. We're leaving it early and headed to another hotel. I'd recommend do not come here until the strike is fixed and the hotel and management get properly. Take care of guests..

"A resort without staff is the opposite of relaxing"

2.0

We wasted thousands on a Hilton vacation with ZERO service. We’ve been super disappointed with our visit to the property in the begging of October, during the strike. The resort was not functional. Our brand new room had no sheets and was dirty. There are no food or beverage services available anywhere on property. The pools aren’t staffed. Why can’t they just give their workers a contact and pay a fair wage? I know I paid a huge cost to book my stay, so why aren’t workers getting their fair share for making our trip amazing?

"horrible experience"

1.0

I liked the view

they were on strike when I arrived and I wasn't informed prior to arrival. it took about 2 hrs online to be Informed that I was In the wrong part of the hotel. this was after I showed my reservation twice to someone to ask them if I was in the right place. I heard some people infront of me say they had been waiting almost 3 hrs. my app didn't let me check in. it was a massive disaster. then once I get to my correct tower and get checked in, I get to my room n the room is dirty. I had to wipe down the tables. the floors needed to be vacuumed. I would have left but it was like 8pm and I due to check out the next day. there were no towels. I tried calling and no one answered for front desk so I had to go down to the desk and request it my self. it was honestly the worse experience I have ever had at a hotel. I really wish I would have been told ahead of time about the strike. then at lease I already knew what I was getting my self into.
