"Made to feel very unwelcome despite booking in advance."

4.0

Booked a table for 7.30pm on a Sunday evening (3 people). Member of staff came and asked for our order at 7.40pm … we requested a few more minutes as we weren’t quite ready. Member of staff stated that we could have a minute but “no longer” as the kitchen wanted to close. Staff member returned at 7.45pm to take order. Began with starters. We’re told that orders for starters “could not be taken now” as it was “very late”. Pointed out that it was 7.45pm. Staff member went to the kitchen to check with chef. Chef agreed we could have starters. Starters were nice. Burgers also good. Cheese pie literally a bowl of melted cheese - not good at all for £17.50 price tag. Overall experience spoilt by the fact we were made to feel so unwelcome the moment we tried to order. Contacted The Royal on Facebook to ask if I could provide some feedback regarding our experience. Was told that I could but it might not be read as it was “very late” … was 9.43pm. Some investment is staff training is definitely needed!

"Worst meal we have had while in the area a- never to return."

2.0

We have been in the area a week, had lunch in various pubs and been very happy, until today’s Lunch at The Royal Hotel in Bolton le Sands. Staff very pleasant when we arrived, asked if they could do GF as I am Coeliac. Knew when it arrived it would not be good the batter was so thick with only a sliver of fish in it. Mentioned at the end of the meal, staff said chef sent his apologies but no discount. We finished our drinks and walked out. If the rest of your meals are as bad, we will give your pub a miss. Would definitely NOT be recommending on the Coeliac site.

"Nice Stay"

8.0

Convienent location to the place we were visiting, Confortable room nicely decorated, comfy bed great shower. There is road noise especially when you have the windows open that could affect light sleepers. Would have been nice to have a Smart TV in the room and instructions for a free Wifi that doesnt want your personal details. The pub itsself is nicely decorated , staff friendly , food pricing is on a par with most places we eat at now. Downside is that if you leave before 09:00 you'll miss breakfast as they dont open the door downstairs until 09:00 and you'll need via the outside fire escape. And if youre arriving late last food orders is 21:00. Food and Drink choices are good

"Disappointed"

4.0

I have been to the Royal Hotel several times. Food ranges from excellent to dire. This time I ordered the roast beef. The beef was tough and difficult to cut with a knife and extremely chewy. The gravy was horrible. It consisted of nothing but flour and fat and tasted really bland.
