The carpet wasn’t that clean, maybe it needs to be changed or just tiles are fine

Using fire escape to enter and leave property before 9am and 10.30 pm. Room needs refreshing decor tired . Heating on a timer not always on when required . I was in room 1 fan noice or air con when bar open .

Nice pub, decent food.

Dated room, no cash accepted at the bar, pricey breakfast if you wanted the full English.

Sunday lunch was very nice food, but overpriced we felt. The biggest issue for us was the service. Waitresses were very friendly, but service was very slow. Waited a long time for drinks, an hour between placing our order and main courses appearing. In the meantime tables around us were being served with the same dishes we had ordered. 2 of our table had a starter but it was only soup and houmous. Had we not had those we would have left. No apology was offered from the staff for the wait. When we asked if we had been forgotten the waitress simply said "it being plated up now". Our order had clearly been forgotten! I dont mind when mistakes happen - noone is perfect - but please own up and apologise!

A weekend stay at the Royal Hotel, the room was a clean double of a good standard, however the highlight was the restaurant. Enjoyed our first night meal so much that we booked to eat there the second night as well, and it didn't disappoint. The food exceeded our expectations and I would recommend eating at the Royal Hotel to all. They keep a very good pint too. Plentiful parking and very pleasant staff. Hotel is well placed for beach walks or along the canal directly behind.

The room, although clean and comfortable enough, would have felt more welcoming with a few pictures on the walls, e.g. of local scenes. A minor quibble.

Breakfast and dinner were very good. Spirits and mixers were a little pricey.
