There was no heating in the room and it was -3 degrees. On the second night they offered to move us but not worth it for last night. The extractor fan from the kitchen was outside the room and the windows were frosted so couldn’t see out. To be fair they have said that they will refund half the cost.

Nice enough environment but service and food disappointing. Despite just a handful of customers, service was glacially slow, albeit friendly. Breakfast menu seemed to be trying too hard. The only toast available was made from ciabatta which was oily and is obviously never going to work with jam. Items such as the sausage sandwich weren’t available as a veggie option, despite there being veggie sausages elsewhere on the menu. Coffee was like dishwater- terrible.

The Royal is our local pub and the owners have done a great job of making it a lovely welcoming place for locals and visitors alike. We have eaten there several times and it’s been good, quite pricey but you get what you pay for and the service was great. We do pop in with our dog sometimes for a drink or coffee as it is very dog friendly but still spotless. My only small gripe is the fact that oat milk (or any alternative milk) is no longer available. My family is dairy intolerant so we don’t drink dairy as it makes us ill. But you might be surprised to know that a third of uk households now opt for a non dairy milk option. So that’s a lot of customers. Also it lasts for ages in the fridge. Our server said it was due to the new coffee machine only being able to heat one type of milk. That’s fair enough, but a cold dairy milk option would be more than acceptable. Please rethink and we’ll come back to you for our coffees instead of Bay View!

The bar and restaurant here is stunning and was a bustling hive of activity when we arrived. Most tables reserved which show the mark of a good restaurant. We stayed in room 4. Decent size for the 2 of us and small dog. Would say that there was orange tape over exposed carpet grip which isn’t great when your dog is wandering around. Room was very hot. We stayed in room 4 which only has a tiny window. We had it open all night and was still sleeping on top of the sheets. Great shower. Big car park and very friendly staff. The room didn’t match the expectation of the bar and restaurant but was ok for the one night we stayed. We ventured to the blue anchor which was nice and friendly. Locals gave us lots of advice. Great breakfast too.

A very beautiful pub and hotel! Very busy on the evening we arrived and tables booked for lunch the next day so it said a lot, we had breakfast the morning we checked out and it was excellent! Friendly staff lots of parking, a lovely and very spacious room and dog friendly. Would definitely return

The carpet grip was exposed by our bathroom door and we worried a bit we or the dog would step on it but we just kept the door closed so it was a v v v minor issue

I have been here many times but this time I noticed a significant difference in food quality, starter and desert satisfactory but the steak was like old boot leather , even my dog struggled to chew it!
