Apex Waterloo Place Hotel

I was unsure about the hotel on arrival. We had booked a superior double room and directed to room 1019 on the 10th floor. We had a fabulous view, but the room was small as was the bathroom. The 3 windows had been left open but we found it difficult to close them. I pulled down the blinds but they were fairly tatty and the bathroom door would not shut properly without putting the lock on. I went back to Reception and asked if we could upgrade. We were told the hotel was fully booked but allocated an alternative room on the 7th floor - a large room, large bathroom with high ceilings overlooking the main entrance. Because I understood this to be a superior double, I was amazed at the contrast in the rooms. At this point we were very pleased and grateful for the help the receptionist gave us with moving the luggage. However, I did wonder why the hotel didn't have a porter as I saw another female receptionist having to manage visitors' luggage. The a la carte cooked breakfast was excellent. In the main, the breakfast staff were very good but there were just minor things for us, the menu didn't state you could request a pot of tea. We did that on the second morning but the tea pot was plonked on the table and I had to go looking for a milk jug, the table only had strawberry jam (bearing in mind we had a strawberry allergy) so I had to go looking again. I know - not the end of the world - but the hotel is offering a 4 star luxury experience. Fabulous location though and in the end we were very comfortable. We have booked for one night in July - a superior double room - I'm just hoping not to be sent back to room 1019!

Efficiency cleanliness .

Did not eat this time or even use bar but the room spa facilities and helpfulness of reception staff was outstanding .

I raised 2points. A/I found the very fancy big DEEP bath very dangerous . It was VERY Difficult to get out of it ,and In order to do so I had to fill it to the brim , float and slide out in a horizontal position . NO hand rails to help one in and out ! Dangerous , no warning signage . B/No toilet brushes ! Embararassing , especially if one shares a room with somebody else . I would rather clean the mess myself . C/ lifts confusing but I gather hs to be !

We have stayed in Edinburgh a single night and of course you can stay here an entire week - but if you aim for 2 days of exploration I thought the hotel's location was absolutely excellent, walking distance to Johnnie Walker Experience (literally same street just a straight 10 to 15 minutes easy flat surface stroll), Edinburgh Castle etc. + plenty of great restaurants. A few things to plan for though: 1. There is no arrival spot in front of the hotel, so you park the car with the 4 way flashers blinking hoping nobody gets you a ticket :D there are some "reserved" parking spots for some club in front of the entrance but the hotel has none for some strange reason 2. The parking lot called Q parking lot is on the opposite site of the "front entrance" - so I recommend still dropping of your luggage and then just dropping off the car - the hotel will help you with the discount on the parking itself 3. We didn't have the breakfast included but upon arrival were offered a discounted rate for the morning buffet at the Liberte restaurant located inside the same building - all 4 of us liked it and we thought it was a good deal 4. There was only 1 elevator working at the time of our arrival - overall 2 but the other one was under maintenance - it took ages sometimes to get up or down - the hotel has an unusual setup - you are on the "ground floor" but the rooms are actually below, but they are not really underground or anything, it's just the other side of the street/building is where the roads go downhill - I liked it, just the elevator upon check in and check out took a bit more than everybody wanted to Staff was friendly, location great, price a bit more than I would want to pay without breakfast already included but at the end of the day it was a proper stay and everything in GBP usually tends to be more than one would want it to cost LOL If returning one day to Edinburgh I would totally revisit, if budget isn't an issue you should as well.

La chambre était au -2 comment vous dire que la vue était seulement des murs. C’était horrible. Pour le prix de la nuitée. Je pense qu’on paye plus l’emplacement que l’hôtel en lui même.

Location was great

Our first room (earlier stay) had a musty odor. We should have reported it.

- Great location for train, bus and tourist sites - Helpful staff especially at Front Desk, in Spa and in Liberté restaurant.

There was only one lift as the other is being refurbished, which is a long-term project.
