Amaya Lake Dambulla

Sehr schöne Anlage in einem riesigen Park ähnlichen Gelände am See. Man sitzt sehr schön im Restaurant oder an der Bar. Der Pool ist sehr groß und liegt wunderschön in der Anlage.

Bei circa 90 Villen gab es nur exakt 17 Poolliegen. Einige Gäste mussten am Pool sichtbar unzufrieden in Stühlen Platz nehmen.

The staff is great, Ranjith made our stay special with his kindness and generally all the people at the restaurant were incredibly caring. The resort itself is stunning - the lake view, the pools, the animals. Everything made the experience one of a kind.

The room itself needs some renovation - we got the suite and paid extra expecting a nicer room, but in reality it’s not worth the money. The furniture is relatively old and just not that nice, plus it’s not the exclusive as it’s connected to another suite through a locked door. If I were to go back I would book a villa - which is just as nice if not nicer and more private.

The resorts location is stunning. On a lake with nature all around and animals such as monkeys, lizards and birds to watch. Pools were clean and crisp. Bed and hot shower made the stay so comfortable and for an unreal night sleep.

We asked about vegan and vegetarian options before our stay and on arrival. Nothing was done with this. The buffet had hardly any vegan or veggie options which didn’t make it great value for money for us. We weren’t informed of meal times or activities we had to inquire about this all ourselves. Staff at the bar seemed to ignore us a lot and we had to ask for menus and to get served. Also, any extra activities seemed to be monetised and not included in the price such as having to pay to play a game of pool.

The customer service

The location by the lake, absolutly beautiful. There are several spots to admire the views and imerse in the experience. The staff is very helpfull. The rooms are big and overall confortable, although a bit humid (but it was very rainy when we visited). You will need a tuk tuk or taxi as there isnt much around the hotel, but it was very confortable. A lot of options for breakfast.

We stayed for 4 nights in a room which was spacious with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. The gardens are immaculate with a team tending them every day. The trees are all identified and a lot look very old. The treatments in the spa are very good and reasonably priced. The main area with the restaurant and bar are large and decorated to a high standard. The food is good quality with many many choices. They put on a special dinner for Christmas Eve which was very good with many choices to suit all nationalities

The hotel is not near any shops so you are dependant on what is there. The small bottles of water left in the room have a note on them saying extra water bottles are chargeable. Our main gripe though was the pricing for alcohol. The prices are higher rates than any other 4 hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. Then when you sign for it they add ten per cent sales tax and a further twenty three per cent described as tax. When queried we were told this is how it works in Sri Lanka but it wasn't in any other hotel were stayed in. It made the bill excessively high. There was a discount by booking through booking.com but this wasn't applied to the final bill until we asked for it. Having settled the bill we were asked if we would be leaving a positive review for our stay. There were a lot of positives just be aware of this stealth taxation which didn't happen elsewhere on our trip
