Westgate Winchester

The hotel was clean and comfortable and in a great location to shopping and restaurants, the pub downstairs is welcoming and warm. My only complaint is that the stairwells and rooms were being painted which created a hazard on the stairways and wet paint that everyone got on their clothes.

Ideally placed for walking to all the amazing sights. Close to shops, restaurants and parking. Food in the hotel was amazing, and staff were helpful and professional.

Excellent location for exploring Winchester. Clean, well decorated and spacious room. Friendly check in. Room slightly noisy from overhead and music downstairs. Fine for us but wouldn’t suit a very light sleeper.

Lovely cosy room, loved the comfy bed, lovely shower.. The heater not working we did complain.. Would stay here again

Stayed in room 3. Room was lovely, perfect temperature- the staff were so helpful and friendly to deal with. Yes, the stairs are steep but there’s not really anything they can do about that. Nice, clean, fluffy towels and a comfy bed. Good quality amenities Would definitely recommend staying here

A bit shabby, no hotel standard service, near everything

The location is great, however the stairs access is very tight, as warned. The room was spacious, however the mattress had sprung and as the Westgate is by a mini-roundabout, you could hear the noise through the single paned windows.

Good location for rail station and High Street/sights. It's an old building so don't expect modern finish or double glazing.

We stayed at the Westgate for a long weekend and travelled by train. We arrived early and managed to leave our case with the pub until check in at 3pm. We signed up to the City Club App but didn't receive any benefit when booking through Hotels.Com, also the restaurant was undergoing a deep clean so was closed for the first day. We decided not to use the facilities of the Westgate for the remains of our stay. Breakfast isn't served at the Westgate. Rooms 9 and 10 are on the top floor (3rd floor) and you need to negotiate via a narrow spiral staircase. The room was adequate and we had a comfortable stay. The rooms aren't serviced so any replacement items (toiletries, rolls, tea, coffee etc) need to be requested by email/text, which can lead to misinterpretation.The room was warm but we had a wall mounted fan. The sash window was jammed open with 3 books, which seemed to work well.There was some evening noise from passing vehicles/people as you'd expect from a city centred location.
