Westgate Winchester

We stayed one night at the Westgate and were only really there to sleep so did not need much from out stay other than a comfortable nights sleep - which was delivered. The venue is very much a pub with rooms above rather than a hotel but that was not an issue for us. We were politely greeted on arrival, told how to get to our room and late night entry procedure explained. The building is very old, wonky and with steep and narrow staircases which could be a challenge for people with large luggage. But the room was lovely: Clean and quiet.

The left-hand window blind doesn't seem to work and I couldn't get either of the bedside lights to operate.

Lovely. Only slight negatives were the street noise as single lane windows and the pub wasn’t open on the Tuesday I stayed. But overall would recommend. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Would have been nice to have had breakfast included.

Very steep stairs to rooms, no breakfast available and no on-site parking

Chose here on recommendation and due to proximity to the town. First impressions were good. Nice , if small, room. Generally everything was clean, with the exception of the toilet, which appeared to have been used prior to us arriving. This appeared to just have been an oversight as everything else was pleasant and in good order. Check in was quick and polite. This would have been a lovely stay had I not then needed to have an urgent meeting (over Zoom 🙁) the following morning. In light of the meeting I asked if I could check out slightly later (this is advertised on the receipt I got from the hotel as a ‘perk’ of downloading their app). I was told that this was only available to those who had booked via the app. I then asked if I could pay for a later checkout, only to be told that this wasn’t possible. So after dinner we come back to the bar. Outside is advertised a 20% discount for key workers and emergency services personnel (both me and the other half qualify). Upon asking it’s apparently again only available if you’ve booked through the app. So no drink there then. Or breakfast (it’s not available currently). Instead I struggle down at 11am, mid meeting on laptop and with all our luggage, to be told I can’t even sit downstairs in the hotel because the bars not open until 12! So out into the high street it is! I get the app thing but come on, a little bit of slack and customer service wouldn’t have gone amiss. Not sure if I’ll go back, if so I’ll be sure to get the app

Enjoyed my stay would recommend - close to town and parking at tower car park was easy

This is a super location secure 24 hour parking at the tower multistory. Lovely staff night door to street.lovely little secret garden for smokers blankets and heaters provide. Could not fault.

Really enjoyed our stay… A lovely place to stay, and Winchester is a lovely place to visit
